Sustainable Cities Network AZ The official page for the Sustainable Cities Network (SCN) of Arizona.

The Network is a vehicle for sharing knowledge and coordinating efforts to understand and solve problems. It is designed to foster partnerships, identify best practices, provide training and information, and create a bridge between ASU’s research and front-line challenges of sustainability. Through the Network, partners will work together to streamline green city operations, advance solar energy,

mitigate the urban heat island, design sustainable neighborhoods, and secure water supplies in a changing climate.

📢Check out this opportunity with the Summer Health Institute!

High school students are invited to join the ASU College of Health Solutions for an immersive college experience, where they will learn about what it means to be a physician, dentist, physical therapist, and other health care positions.

📅: Camp 1: June 25-July 1, 2023; Camp 2: July 9-15, 2023
📍: In person at ASU's Downtown Phoenix campus
Ages/grades: Rising seniors who will graduate high school in May or June 2024
💵: Housing, food, materials and instruction are provided at no cost. Participants will need to travel to and from the camp at their own expense.

Application opens: May 1, 2023
Application due: June 1, 2023

📢 City of Tempe Neighborhood and Resilience team is hiring a Policy & Grants Coordinator.

The City is looking for a passionate candidate to support the City's climate programs. The position will be able to show measurable impacts through policy, grant awards, partnership development, and the resources brought to Tempe’s frontline and environmental justice communities.

Responsibilities include:
💵 Monitor local, state, and federal grants; support other departments with grant applications
🎯 Manage the grant management system
💧Support water policy development and monitoring with AMWUA, cities, towns, SRP, and CAP
⚡Work on energy decarbonization policy with SRP and APS
🏘️Advance resource requests in the areas of housing affordability, homelessness outreach, and other human services areas
🏙️and more to support the regional leader in climate action!

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis- the first review of applications will start on March 9, 2023.

Congratulations to the City of Peoria for recently passing its Sustainable Peoria Plan! Since its first iteration of the Sustainability Action Plan, Peoria has engaged with four classes through Project Cities to inform recommendations for the City's sustainability planning.

🏙️ Undergraduate students from the School of Sustainability reviewed peer community sustainability plans to recommend best practices in sustainability planning.

📢 Four master's students from the School of Sustainability assisted Peoria with community outreach and engagement to inform the sustainability plan.

💧Two master's students from the School of Public Affairs researched and recommended water and waste management funding strategies.
