ONE MORE SIGNATURE NEEDED.

The Major Richard Star Act discharge petition has 217 of the 218 signatures needed. Combat-injured veterans have waited long enough.

Take action today and tell Congress to get this done: https://www.votervoice.net/VFW/Campaigns/139696/Respond

September is Su***de Prevention Month - please find moments this month to check in on friends. 🙏💜

Is a veteran you know struggling with or ?

You can help decrease the su***de rates of veterans and service members by knowing the signs and memorizing both the number of the Veterans Crisis Line (Dial 988, then press 1) and their website: https://www.veteranscrisisline.net so you can share this information with anyone who may be in need of it.

Even one death by su***de is too many.

We are counting down the National winners of our three art contests starting on Saturday, July 18. Each day leading up to National Convention, we will share National award-winning works from the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest, 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contest and Illustrating America, concluding with the National first-place winners of both the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest and 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contest on July 25.

As always, we remind visitors to our Facebook and Instagram pages to remember that these works of art were created by talented students in grades K-12. While we welcome positive feedback and post sharing, we reserve the right to delete any comments that are political/partisan or unkind. Hate speech will not be tolerated.

We hope you will join us in recognizing and celebrating the incredible talent of these young artists. Thank you for your support of the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest, 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contest and Illustrating America!

Happy Mother's Day!

Throughout the day today, we will be celebrating motherhood, from the VFW Auxiliary mothers we volunteer beside to the VFW mothers whose eligibility we joined under, and from the mothers we've met in the VFW and Auxiliary to the mothers of veterans who know how better than anyone it feels to be filled with pride and worry while their child is deployed. We also recognize and honor our Gold Star Mothers, our Blue Star Mothers, our currently deployed military mothers and the mothers of young children who bring them to VFW Auxiliary meetings and events. This celebration extends from biological mothers to stepmothers, foster mothers, adoptive mothers, mothers-in-law, grandmothers and other family members who've stepped into the shoes of mothers, godmothers and other mother figures in our lives.

Thank you to all who sent in submissions ahead of the deadline. (Unfortunately we will not be able to include any emails sent today, as National Headquarters is closed on Sundays.) But we welcome you to use the hashtag to share your stories and photos - we look forward to seeing them when we return to the office on Monday.

"All that I am, or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother." -President Abraham Lincoln

In honor of National Poetry Month, this week’s Wisdom Wednesday is a poem by Shel Silverstein, author of The Giving Tree, Where the Sidewalk Ends and The Voice.

There is a voice inside of you
that whispers all day long,
"I feel that this is right for me,
I know that this is wrong."
No teacher, preacher, parent, friend
or wise man can decide
what's right for you - just listen to
the voice that speaks inside.
