If you are a carnatic/hindustani singer or instrumentalist, you should definitely participate in the Phoenix Thyagaraja aaradhana (held every February). There is a group pancharatna keerthanai singing event, for which practise sessions will be held (monthly), starting this Sunday (Nov 3) on ASU campus. The final event will be conducted on ASU campus. Please send an email to [email protected] if you are interested. This is a very good opportunity for musicians.

A Vocal and Veena double header carnatic concert featuring Shri. Karthik Raju and Smt. Vasumathi Narayan. This is part of the local talent showcase series of SPICMACAY-ASU concert season.

Featured Artiste Bio:
Sri. Karthik Raju had his initial vocal training under Kalakkad Sri.Krishnamurthy and Kalakkad Sri.Hariharan. Under the CCRT scholarship scheme from Govt Of India, Karthik had an opportunity to participate in workshops and specialized training held by Neyveli Sri.Santhanagopalan. Karthik then came under the tutelage of Sri.Syamakrishna Pillai from Swathi Thirunal Music College with focus on advanced concepts. He is presently learning from Smt. Gayathri Girish and Madurai Sri.Sundar, both senior students of Madurai Sri. TN Seshagopalan. Karthik has held the Maharajapuram Sri.Santhanam scholarship for vocal excellence for 3 consecutive school years and is a regular performer at the Chennai music season since 5 years.
Smt. Vasumathi Narayan started learning veena at an young age from her mother, Smt Saroja Srinivasan, a Veena Vidushi, from Government Music College in Chennai.
She received advanced lessons from Smt Kamala Vishwanathan , a top grade veena aritst.
She is a recipient of the Veena Dhanamal award. She has performed in Indian radio and TV channels. She has given solo concerts in Chennai, India, at VDS Arts Academy, Rotary Club, temples, and many community events. In the US, she has performed in multiple cities in mid-west and in Arizona. She has participated in numerous dance orchestras and also played fusion music with Cincinnati Pops and leading semi classical artists from India.

Aalaap is a Chennai-based initiative in the performing arts of India. Aalaap collaborates with performing artistes and assists them in aspects of ideation, curation, production, promotion and ex*****on. Aalaap also publishes a bi-monthly performing arts' magazine by the same name. In it, artistes and those sensitive to the arts, share their perspectives and points of view on specific subjects. Since its inception in October last year, Aalaap has curated and executed a host of unique performances and events across Chennai, Delhi and Bangalore.
