My husband Len Macias had hopes of starting a foundation that he called “Happy Feet” Here’s how it all started....
One day Len was on his way to work when he saw a homeless man standing on the corner. The mans shoes caught his attention. They were old, had holes, they were very dirty and worn from life on the streets.
Len did not hesitate to pull over and give the man the shoes off his own feet.
That same day, as I got home from work I see these old dirty and very worn out shoes outside the door. I walked in and asked Len, whose shoes are those outside?
He began to tell me the story of how he gave the homeless man his shoes he was wearing.
I had to ask, what shoes did you wear to work if you gave the guy your shoes?
He said, I wore his shoes.
Len’s encounter with this man stirred a passion in his heart, to help those that were less fortunate and homeless. It was his vision to bless kids and adults of all ages with new shoes.
I’m sure the look on my face said it all, after he told me about his day and the meeting of this man on the street corner.
My husband, with a very humble heart wore the mans old dirty shoes to work. I was very proud of Len. Who would do that? I can see giving a pair of shoes away, but actually wearing the dirty old shoes to work?
Len battled brain cancer starting with a GBM grade 4 in September of 2008. He was given 18-24 months to live.
He beat the odds.
In May 2019, 10 1/2 years later he was diagnosed with an AA3 brain tumor.
This one took a toll on him physically and mentally. In October 2020 he was diagnosed with another AA3 brain tumor.
He had a total of 3 brain surgeries.
On March 12th, 2021 Len lost his battle and my heart was crushed.
Lens dream of blessing people with shoes never happened for him, however in 2021 we made Len’s dream come to pass.
What he started that day on his way to work is now a non profit organization and is meeting the needs through your financial donations.
Because of your generous giving “Len’s Happy Feet” is able to put smiles on many families.
It’s an honor to see Len’s dream come to pass through people that desire to donate to Lens Happy Feet.
I see Len’s smile through Each person that is blessed with a new pair of shoes.
Thank you so much
