Zubie Five didn't start with a business plan. It started with a Little League field.

Think about the field you grew up on. Or the one you've spent your Saturdays at as a parent, coffee in hand, watching your kid play.

Chances are it didn't have much. What it had was people.

A coach who showed up every single practice, for nothing. A parent running the snack bar because someone had to. A volunteer keeping score, keeping the lights on, keeping the whole thing together.

The scoreboard that never quite worked right. The uniforms that didn't always match. None of it mattered, because you were there. Whether you were the one on that field as a player, or the one watching from the fence line as a parent, coffee going cold, not wanting to miss a single pitch. For a couple hours, nothing else in the world was more important than that.

You probably didn't think about it then. But looking back, it's clear: those programs ran on people who gave up their time, not on money that was ever really there. And somehow, that was enough. It was more than enough. It was everything.

There's a lot of conversation right now about the cost of youth sports, and how out of reach it's become for a lot of families.

Here's what doesn't get talked about enough: most local programs aren't underfunded because there isn't money nearby. They're underfunded because nobody's asking for it.

Local businesses want to support the teams and leagues in their own community. Most of them just aren't being asked because sponsorship is a full job on its own, and it's the one thing nobody on a volunteer board has time to do.

That's the gap Zubie Five exists to close. Zubie Five finds the sponsors, prices the assets, and closes the deals so a local youth sports organization can be funded well enough to compete without pushing families toward something more expensive.

Strong local programs are one of the best answers to a system that's pricing families out. Funding them properly is where that starts.

Private travel leagues have made youth sports expensive, hypercompetitive, and all-consuming for families. At least investors are making a killing.
