Had our farrier out again today. He looked at her feet and decided we will let Belle go another month. We got Nuggs shoes redone; Carson, Dilly, Daja, Cole, Jedi and Kaz all had pedicures.

Hay, I wondered if it makes donating easier to do - a trim? a Bale of Hay? A bag of senior? The less I spend on those needs, the more I can save toward the silos.

TRIMS $60. (I get them done every 8 weeks).

A bale of breakfast hay is $20 - gives hay for everyone each day.

A bag of senior feed $26. This is largely for Bella, Belle, Carson, Annie, Cowboy, Rosie and Cole. But I also give a double handful on the pellets of the others, as a treat they can hunt for in their pellet bucket.

Or $10 for a 25 pound bag of carrots. Their favorite!

I'll assume any such donations are silo related. I have ALWAYS believed that a little from a lot of people works great - and spreads the pain! 😝

See how they are? They love their food more than anything. Just being near it.....

I don't want to nag. I swear I don't. and I know I gave 5 weeks of lead time, to accumulate enough donations to fill our silos. (In addition, it's gonna cost $1,000 to move the silos, reinforce their footings, and prepare a retainer wall for behind them. Its a real good price with a guy who knows what he's doing but... oof.) So far, I've received $225 in donations.

I know I also don't spend a penny I don't have to right this minute. knowing our supporters, I suspect you were gonna donate closer to the delivery date. But Im askeerd of calling to order it, without the $ in hand! Help me! Please don't forget us. Getting these silos filled before the projected rains, safe and dry for the next 6 months, is very important. And yeah, I have to buy 20 tons because that's a truckload. Its been years since I was able to order 5 tons at a time. (That happened when I think the drivers were getting a free trip to CA, and hitting the casinos and visiting family, and reporting "bad traffic" for why they were gone for too many days! Plus, CA regulations made them less anxious to send their trucks here. I've been grateful they still send a truck here a couple times a year.) And this is very good feed, important to our elderly crew. Please help me fill these silos.

Here's another of my famously shaky videos which starts with Belle, and you see she's last in line behind Bella and Rosie who are following Nuggs. (I always hear the voice of the Frenchie who 'loves the nuggets' when I watch these ladies. First thing in the AM they move over to his stall and wait for me to let him out to his adoring fans....)

So today, SCE will turn off our electricity, "just in case". Its so much easier to deny people electricity, than maintain your poles wires and transformers. We don't have a breath of air here .... but somewhere, the wind may be blowing. Its really hard on people out here. Not everyone can afford buying and setting up a generator, or these days, the fuel to run one, to provide electricity for 24 hours. And electric keeps your food fresh; provides water; and provides internet/phone. Going 24 hours without even a fan in this heat .... lots of old folks up here really suffer - and can only get relief if they can get 8-10 miles to a "cooling" area in the town. Im old enough to remember when ... well, you could just be sure the electricity would be on. I remember the confusion with scheduled brownouts, usually just a few hours. Today, it goes off at 9AM and stays off till at least 9PM, and maybe quite a bit longer as repairs may be in progress, and delayed by darkness!! What bu****it.

So I got up at 6 and made sure all water barrels were filled (most done last night, but topped everything) and bowls for the dogs. Filled gallons for use myself, and for the dogs. Ran irrigation for 1.5 hours; charged up the GEM. Everything I could that needed water (since electric runs the water pumps).

The horses are all doing well, munching on breakfast. Once the power goes out, I've got some outdoor chores and then, NAP TIME! Its gonna be a long...long....long day.

Last night Kaz spent the night in her new stall! DIRECTLY across the aisle from Jedi, so there was no 1/2 hour of bellowing from him. He wasn't as bad stalking Belle, but still clearly interested.

Kaz was next door to Star, with whom she's been buddy-buddy, and nothing torn down or destroyed (Star can be "iffy").

She and Rosie both got their raspberry leaves last night, as they are both going crazy over Nugget, and sometimes Laddie. Rosie was actually HERDING Nugget away from his stall gate, trying to control where he went. and this morning, Laddie was trying to herd her away from Nug's stall. Girls just wanna have fun!

Goodmorning, I've pinned our Match post so it won't be lost or hard to find.

Im not quite sure yet, but it looks like Jedi is enamored of Belle! He kept lurking outside her stall as she ate, wouldn't go to his own! That's serious stuff for our boy, he LOVES his dinner bucket! I'll try to get some photos...

Well, altho some heat is predicted for this weekend, it was freaking COLD last night! Fall seems to be here. I've been dealing with the shorter days already.

I've also been dealing with our dear Bella (the ex-therapy mare). Bella as you know came in, shy, and grateful for Carson to be her friend. I moved him next to her, and they've been good. But I realized a couple of weeks ago that I feel she is too thin. Back to where she was when she came in. And the reason, as I see it, is really crazy. After Nugget came in, she was very interested in him. And when he hooked up with Rosie, she was even more interested. And I believe what happened is she began to go everywhere with those two, to the point that she isn't eating enough breakfast hay! She eats everything in her stall. And I HAVE seen her eat in the field. But either she just isn't settling to eat in the field, or she's wearing it all off climbing hills and wandering all over with Nugs/Rosie. So a couple of weeks ago, I've added 2 flakes of bermuda to her evening ration, as well as flax seed to her bucket. And she's eating it all. I will keep you posted on her progress. (remember, she had her teeth floated and the vet thought they looked very good. She's just more anxious to hang with her friends than eat! Crazy redheads)

Well, I've been seriously needing a boost, and no surprise our friend and supporter Renee has sent me one. As you know, we have about 6 weeks to get our silos refilled, and Im also having our silo guy come to make sure each is properly supported, while tlhey are empty. It happens twice a year, the last time was May. We get very good value for the $$, and our goal is $10,000 (we have SOME already squirreled away). I know, I know, I just came from the grocery store and gas station ($6/gal). I just HATE to ask. But this is FOOD - that irreplaceable absolute necessity! If you can help, anytime in the next 6 weeks, please. You KNOW how much it is appreciated, right?

A crazy day yesterday. I started feeling real proud of myself - I had to go to the local trash dump, So I got the horses fed and released; checked their waterers; came up and stuffed all this crap (HOW do I make all this?) into the truck; changed to my cleaner town clothes; got together my washing and put it in the truck (get two distasteful chores done in one trip) and hauled off to the dump. To find it closed. Somehow, I lost a day, and on Tues-Wed the dump is closed! Arrgh. So then went to Temecula to the laundromat and started the wash, went next door to Target for a couple of quick purchases; got the laundry back in the truck and went to my mailbox and got more carrots/apples at Ralphs, and came home. Hung out the laundry to dry. I need a personal assistant.

I was chatting with the stable who sent Belle here, and she asked if Belle was giving me trouble catching her, as I'd left her halter on. Dang. She never gave me any trouble at first, and once she knew where her stall was, she just goes in as Im putting horses away further down the line. And I never wanted to interrupt her as she was eating. So last night, I figured she knew me and the routine, so I did go in and ask for the halter and now, she's naked! I do try to avoid making demands during their early days, so they can take in different feed, water, routines, and the huge confusion of all these horses. Here she is, clearly not confused! :-D
