Holy Crap. Im gonna post pics of the latest problem. And let you think about it. Then I'll edit with my so far feeble ideas of how to fix it. Remember, it has at this point, probably 5.5 tons in it.

Folks, Dawn is a long time friend of the Golden Carrot, and me! This means more than usual to me, as Dawn's horses have passed away, and she is, for the first time probably in decades, horseless. But she lived and breathed horses forever. Its like her in her sadness to reach out to help other horses. Thanks Dawn!

Well, we had some more donations, thank you guys, Alice Mc, Heidi W, and the truck came yesterday. Its gonna be real tight here for a while. I have to start saving for the fall fill! Fingers crossed no big expenses. But once again you came thru! Thank you all for your help!

I have the farrier coming tomorrow too, and last Saturday my mechanic was able to fix all the electrical problems on the F150 - windows wouldn't work (I long for the simple days of window winders!), windshield wipers only worked in park and at one speed (that was a weird one) and due to a vacuum leak, the only AC came out of the defroster vents! 7 hours of work, not mentioning his reading up and Utubing and talking to his brother in CO, hopefully the bill won't be much more than $500. oy.

But now we have 50 bales of new hay, and the horses are hoovering it right up. And 20 tons of fresh pellets, that should last 6 months. And really, that's all that matters to these horses!

Now, we still have 5 days to get closer to the $6,000 fundraiser goal. We are $145 in. Any amount! No amount to small, and none too big!

Now, these two don't get a lot of pellets. I know, they look like I force feed them like foie gras geese, but I don't. But all the other horses do, and in increasing amounts as they age. That nice breakfast hay I just bought isn't something about five of the horses can actually assimilate. Pellets keep their tummies full. Please send a little if you can. I WILL appreciate it!

Ok, today a pic of the 50 bales of breakfast hay. I kinda hate it already - you know those bales, when you pop the last of the twine, and they explode into a giant pile? Yeah. Hoping they will like it!

Goodish news. Not sure yet but Carson and Bella may be Reunited! He was down in Tolly stall this AM, but with a bit of grunting, got himself up. Maybe he played the pity card with Bella, because when I opened her stall, she went right to him FIngers crossed!

The latest donations from Alice Mc and Heidi W took us to $745. $255 to get our match. Can you help?

We are up to $745 for the match. $255 to go! Now, before you're excited, The match will take us to $4,000 for the silo fill fundraiser. We needed $6,000. So.. get a lotto ticket! Im gonna. We NEED this, its basic feed for our old crew. No frills here.

Weather has been hot hot hot (mid to hi 80s) for a while. Everyone drinking well. I add a pinch of table salt to the evening buckets and someone or someones are going at our huge mineral block as well. Carson has been hanging back at night, but scampers in as soon as everyone is stalled and fed. Bella has apparently not gotten over Nugs yet. Renee and Woodie continue to lurk at the edges, watching the soap opera. As The Stable Turns continues....

We now have $250 toward the $1,000 match. Thanks Laura M and Kellan, both already sponsors here! But folks, we have 10 days to get $750. Can we do it?

I've also encountered a problem I didn't expect. The breakfast hay guy seems to be out of business. No response at all to 3 messages over the past 2 weeks. This is the guy you may remember has the most inept and obnoxious helpers delivering his hay that you could imagine. BUT the hay was good quality, and $17/bale with no delivery fee. My usual feed provider (brings our senior feed and tiny alf pellets) gets $24/bale, and a delivery fee. That's a HUGE markup. I'll be making calls tomorrow to see if I can find a better deal.

Ugh. Im old, you guys. I've seen prices go up and up, and never down, in my life. But the jump in the last 6 months is brutal. I know it's why you are hesitating.

But a match is IMPORTANT. If you only feel comfortable sending $20, you may say it won't make a difference. In fact, it ALL does, always, but during a match, it's $40! Anything you can do will be so greatly appreciated. And share with people you know. If you follow us, you know the $$ ALL goes to the feeding and care of the horses. You can reassure others who might be hesitant to donate to animal rescue, give the horrible catastrophes we've seen just in So Cal.

So once again, friend and supporter Renee wants to 'goose' our fundraiser, and has offered $1,000 if we can match this. If this works, our total will reach $4,000 of the $6,000 we need. Thanks to Linda R and Catherine L and Dawn, we are at $2,050 right now.
