On MMIP Day, Pechanga proudly recognizes our Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Investigator Juan Sanchez, who stands as the only dedicated MMIP Investigator in California.

Investigator Sanchez plays a critical role in addressing the ongoing MMIP crisis through advocacy, investigative support, community resources, and collaboration with tribal, local, state, and federal partners. His leadership strengthens our commitment to protecting our people, raising awareness, and ensuring families and communities have support when it matters most.

Today and every day, we stand for awareness, action, and justice for all Missing and Murdered Indigenous People. ❤️🖤

Recently, Councilwoman Catalina Chacon was recognized and received a prestigious Guardians of ICWA Award at the 14th Annual Judge’s Dinner.

Councilwoman Chacon has testified before the California legislature on AB 1574, advocating for foster care prevention funds for tribes; on SB 891 supporting the creation of a Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Justice Program within the California Department of Justice; and promoting amendments to the Feather Alert Bill. She has also served as a Qualified Expert Witness in Court on child welfare matters, providing informed, independent expertise on tribal child-rearing practices and cultural norms to help ensure the court does not inadvertently harm the child or violate tribal rights.

“Councilwoman Chacon shows us every day through her words and actions what is truly important: Children, Community, Tribal Sovereignty. When an Indian child is at risk, or a Bill addressing the health and welfare of tribal communities comes before the legislature, Councilwoman Chacon doesn’t ask why, she doesn’t ask if, she doesn’t put conditions, she asks when and where – how can she be of service.” – Mark Vezzola

Thank you to for bringing together the champions committed to protecting Native children and families.

Óonopo Catalina!

The National Congress of American Indians was honored to be represented by NCAI President Mark Macarro and Holly Cook Macarro, along with Larry Wright Jr., during events held in conjunction with His Majesty King Charles III’s visit to Washington, D.C., including the Garden Party hosted at the British Ambassador’s residence. In addition to the Garden Party, President Macarro was a gallery guest of King Charles III at the joint meeting of Congress, along with other dignitaries and leaders of causes important to His Majesty.

It was an honor to meet His Majesty King Charles III during his visit to Washington, D.C., and to attend the Garden Party at the British Ambassador’s residence alongside NCAI Executive Director Larry Wright, Jr.,” said President Mark Macarro. “We are deeply honored to be among those invited to attend the King’s historic address before Congress. Tribal Nations and Indigenous Peoples must be seen and included in spaces where diplomacy, history, and future partnerships are being shaped, and NCAI is proud to represent Indian Country. As Pechanga’s Tribal Chairman, I am truly humbled to be able to represent our Pechanga people on such a national occasion."
