Learning about nature is one thing. Getting your hands in the soil and seeing how it all works is another.

At Escola Comunitária Maramar in Brazil, students are getting that opportunity through Da Floresta à Mesa (From Forest to Table), a project that brings agroforestry, ecological landscaping, and environmental education into their school environment.

Instead of only reading about how plants grow or how ecosystems work, children can explore these ideas firsthand, from preparing the soil and planting to observing how their surroundings change over time.

Seas of Trees is proud to have helped fund this project, alongside local partners and community members who have contributed their time, resources, and knowledge.

We love seeing schools create more opportunities for children to learn outdoors, ask questions, and develop a connection with the environment around them. 💚

We have some exciting news to share from Brazil! 🌱

A project we’re proud to support at Escola Comunitária Maramar was selected as a Top 5 finalist in its category for the 2026 Sustainable Schools Award!

The project, Da Floresta à Mesa (“From Forest to Table”), brings together environmental education, agroforestry, ecological landscaping, and local knowledge—connecting what students learn at school with the land and community around them.

Seas of Trees provided financial support for the project, helping make the agroforestry and ecological landscaping work possible. But one of the things we love most about this project is how many people have had a hand in it.

Fazenda Mayrahu helped prepare areas for planting and environmental recovery. Pousada Lagoa do Cassange contributed local knowledge to the creation of a garden bed. Students, families, and members of the local community participated in educational activities and helped bring these environmental practices beyond the school grounds.

Escola Comunitária Maramar was selected from more than 700 schools and traveled to Salvador, Bahia, to represent the school at the award ceremony. They were also the only community school among the finalists.

We’re so happy to see this work recognized and grateful to be one of the partners who helped make it possible. 💚

Not every green landscape is a healthy ecosystem. 🌿

It’s easy to look at a hillside covered in green and assume nature is thriving. But green only tells us that something is growing. It doesn’t tell us what’s growing—or what might be missing.

When a landscape is dominated by only a few species or invasive plants begin crowding out native vegetation, it can affect the wildlife, insects, and other plants that depend on that habitat.

That’s why more green isn’t always the answer.
What’s growing matters, too.

At Seas of Trees, we believe planting should work with the ecosystems and communities already there—not simply add trees to a landscape.

The part you don’t always see. 🌱

Planting days can get a little messy. Shovels on the ground, buckets everywhere, seedlings waiting to go in, and everyone figuring out where to start next.

It’s not always the photo that gets posted, but it’s a pretty good look at what happens behind the scenes.

A lot of hands and a little bit of dirt go into every planting day. And with the support of people who believe in what we do, we get to keep doing more of them around the world.

Planting across cultures changes the way you think about restoration. 🌱

This photo was taken during our time in Peru last year. We went there to plant trees, but being there also gave us a chance to see how differently people connect with and care for their land.

Every place we work is different. The landscape is different, the challenges are different, and so are the traditions and knowledge of the people who live there.

That’s something we try to carry with us from one project to the next. There isn’t one way to restore a landscape, and there shouldn’t be.

We’re grateful for the people who welcome us, work alongside us, and teach us something along the way.

Caring for the land has no age limit. 🌱

One of the things we value most about community planting is seeing different generations working toward the same goal.

Older generations bring years of knowledge and connection to their communities. Young people bring new energy, curiosity, and the opportunity to carry that work forward.

When those generations come together, tree planting becomes more than a one-day activity. Knowledge is shared, relationships are built, and caring for the environment becomes something that can continue from one generation to the next.

That’s the kind of community involvement we want to keep growing. 💚

Environmental progress doesn’t always happen fast, and we may not notice it from one day to the next.

World Ozone Day is a reminder of what long-term action can accomplish. Decades of countries working together to phase out ozone-depleting substances have put the ozone layer on a path toward gradual recovery.

There’s something worth carrying into restoration work, too: meaningful environmental change takes commitment beyond a single day or a single action.

For Seas of Trees, that means planting, nurturing, working with communities, and involving young people who will care for these places long into the future. 🌱

Progress takes time. The work we do today still matters.
