PAINT THE TOWN BLUE

The members of Perry County FOP Lodge 137 invite our community to help us "Light the Town Blue" from now through July 4th.

We encourage residents, businesses, churches, and organizations throughout Perry County to display blue lights on their homes, storefronts, porches, and properties as a visible sign of support.

This effort serves two important purposes:

-To honor and remember Sgt. Heather Glenn, whose service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

-To show support and appreciation for the dedicated men and women of Perry County Law Enforcement who continue to serve and protect our communities every day.

A simple blue light can send a powerful message of remembrance, gratitude, and unity. Together, we can light up Perry County and demonstrate that we stand behind those who wear the badge and the families who support them.

Join us as we Light the Town Blue through July 4th.

In recognition of National Police Week, we honor the life, service, and sacrifice of fallen police officers across the Nation, especially our own, Heather Glenn.

Sergeant Glenn wore the badge with courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the people she served. Her End of Watch on July 3, 2023, was not only a heartbreaking loss for the Tell City Police Department, but for an entire community that knew her as a protector, leader, mentor, and friend.

Her sacrifice stands as a solemn reminder that behind every badge is a human being willing to risk everything for others. Though her watch ended too soon, her legacy of service, strength, and selflessness continues to live on in the officers who carry forward her mission and in the community she faithfully protected.

We will never forget Sergeant Heather Glenn.
End of Watch: 7-3-2023.
Honor. Duty. Sacrifice.

During National Police Week this week, we pause to recognize and thank the men and women who put on the badge each day to serve and protect our community. Your dedication, courage, and sacrifice do not go unnoticed.

We also honor and remember the officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. Their service and legacy will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers remain with their families, loved ones, and fellow officers who continue to carry that loss.

To every officer, dispatcher, and member of law enforcement who serves our city and communities across the nation thank you for your commitment, professionalism, and willingness to answer the call, day and night.

The City of Tell City proudly stands with you this National Police Week and every week.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
5/11/26

Perry County Law Enforcement to increase patrols to target seatbelt enforcement
5/11/26 - 5/31/26

Tell City Police Department is partnering with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) to urge Hoosiers to buckle up as part of the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign, a high-visibility enforcement effort focused on increasing seatbelt use.

Beginning May 11 through May 31, 2026, officers will work overtime to ensure drivers
and passengers are using their seatbelts and children are properly secured. The
overtime patrols are funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) through ICJI’s Comprehensive Highway Injury Reduction Program (CHIRP).
“Buckling up is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your
loved ones on the road,” said Douglas Huntsinger, executive director of the Indiana
Criminal Justice Institute. “Seatbelts save lives every day, and every trip should begin
with making sure everyone is secured before hitting the road.”

Since 2021, Indiana has seen a steady decline in fatalities among passenger vehicle
occupants not wearing seatbelts. Seatbelt usage among Hoosiers has also increased,
reaching 94.1% in 2025 according to the Annual Seat Belt Usage Survey conducted by
Purdue University Center for Road Safety in partnership with ICJI. This rate is above the
national average of 91.2% usage in 2024.

“Too often, we see tragedies that could have been prevented with one simple click of a
seatbelt,” said Chief Lawalin. “Buckling up isn’t just the law. It’s a responsibility that helps ensure you make it home safely.”
Indiana law requires drivers and all passengers to buckle up. Children under age eightmust be properly restrained in a federally approved child car seat or booster seat.

Drivers can be cited for lack of seat belt use, but also for each unbuckled passenger
under the age of 16. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to make sure children are in the right car seat and that it is used correctly and properly installed. Resources can be found at www.nhtsa.gov/TheRightSeat. To schedule an appointment with a certified car seat safety technician at one of Indiana’s 100 fitting stations, visit on.in.gov/SafeKids.

CHIRP is supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and
administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. For more information about ICJI’s
traffic safety programs, visit www.in.gov/cji.
