Northeast Tennessee District 7 SKYWARN serves the 7 counties of Carter, Greene, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, & Washington. Take cover.

Northeast Tennessee District 7 SKYWARN organization was founded on Friday, September 16, 2005. On the same day, the FCC granted the original call KI4LTU. On Tuesday, January 10, 2006 the FCC granted the vanity call WX4TN. We service the National Weather Service in Morristown, TN. We do our training / activation nets on 146.700 MHz PL 77.0. Training net every Friday night at 8:00 PM. Status Level G

reen: An advisory for any of the counties in the district is issued by NWS Morristown or no severe weather is expected. Repeater will be operational as usual. Status Level Yellow: A severe thunderstorm watch, tornado watch, or flash flood watch is issued for any of the counties in the district by NWS Morristown. Severe weather will likely occur in our area. Please keep all conversations to the point on the repeater and be prepared to relinquish the repeater to net control should the watch be upgraded to a warning. Status Level Red: A severe thunderstorm warning, tornado warning, or flash flood warning has been issued for any of the counties in the district by NWS Morristown. This means severe weather is occurring in our area. The severe WX net will be operational at this time and the repeater will only be open to emergency traffic, severe reports, or questions about the storm. No other traffic will be permitted on the repeater. All traffic must go through net control.

8/12: Bottom Line Up Front:
It must be stated from the top that today is a Low Confidence forecast. We are expecting additional showers and thunderstorms, but there is uncertainty regarding the timing and areal extent of those showers and storms.
However, given last night's heavy rain in parts of are forecast area, it will not take much rainfall to cause potential flooding issues. Any storms that do affect our area will be capable of heavy rains. As such, a Flash Flood Watch has been issued for today.
The area of most concern is going to be from roughly the Knox metro area, northward along/near the Interstate 81 corridor. These areas, especially Sevier county, saw the heaviest rains yesterday.
With regard to timing, it looks like the first round will come into the region from the north around or shortly after daybreak.

Flash Flood Watch has been issued for today.

Low confidence for timing.
Medium confidence on impacts.

8/11: Bottom Line Up Front:
Multiple rounds of strong to severe storms possible this afternoon and again tonight.
First round, if it occurs, would impact primarily southwest VA and northeast TN during the mid afternoon hours.
Second round would be a line of storms area wide late this evening and into tonight.
Damaging straight line winds and isolated flash flooding are the main impacts.
An isolated tornado can't be ruled out, but the threat for that appears to be primarily north of our area.

A few rounds of strong to severe storms possible Tuesday afternoon and again Tuesday night.
First round, if it occurs, would impact primarily southwest VA and northeast TN during the mid afternoon hours.
Second round, if it occurs, line of storms area wide on Tuesday night.

7/28 Bottom Line Up Front:
An area of strong to severe storms over southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee for this morning.
A line of severe storms expected this afternoon moving north to south. Greatest coverage will be along and west of interstate 75.
Main concern will be damaging winds up to 60 mph and hail up to 1 inch. A tornado or two is possible

Confidence:
High confidence for severe storms with the potential of winds up to 60 mph and hail up to 1 inch. Low confidence for tornadoes. An isolated tornado or two is possible.
Moderate Moderate confidence for timing of severe storms.

7/20: Bottom line up front: Multiple periods of showers and storms possible Tuesday through Wednesday. Most likely time for strong to severe storms and isolated flooding is Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning.
● Overall, the forecast is fairly complex with much uncertainty still in place. There are 3 time periods we are monitoring for the potential of strong to severe storms and flooding.
○ Most likely: Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning.

■ Damaging winds, Isolating flooding and a potential tornado or two are possible during this time.
○ Lower Confidence: A few storms capable of isolated flooding and damaging winds develop in NE TN and SW VA Tuesday morning.
○ Lower Confidence: A slower frontal passage leads to primarily a flash flood threat along with isolated damaging winds Wednesday morning to mid-day.

7/19: Bottom Line Up Front:
Strong to severe storms possible Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Damaging winds and heavy rain, which may lead to isolated flooding, are the main threats.
The tornado threat is conditional on whether overnight storms remain surface based. If so, an isolated tornado or two can't be ruled out.

What Has Changed:
Probabilities beginning to increase for an overnight severe weather event Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Confidence:
Low confidence on system evolution and impacts due to this event being just outside of the time frame of our hi resolution models.
Moderate confidence in timing.

7/9: Bottom Line Up Front:
Scattered showers and storms expected again this afternoon into the evening
Coverage of showers and storms will become a lot more numerous Friday into the weekend
With the threat of repeated, locally heavy rainfall, the flooding threat will be more elevated than in recent days
The level of flooding threat on Saturday will be affected by how much rain falls today and Friday
A few strong to marginally severe storms are also possible with strong winds as the main concern, especially Friday evening and Saturday.

Very hot and humid conditions will continue into the weekend, along with daily chances for isolated to scattered afternoon shower and storms.

High Confidence in hot conditions continuing into Saturday (Independence Day)

6/28: Bottom Line Up Front:
Increasing flood threat through this afternoon.
Several more inches of rain are possible where storms are currently training.
This area is on a northwest to southeast line from the Northern Cumberland Plateau down through the Great Smoky Mountains National park.
Flooding is most likely across these areas.
What Has Changed:
Increased flood threat - some significant flooding is possible.
Confidence:
High confidence in multiple instances of low-end flooding.
Low confidence in a few instances of significant flooding.
High confidence that showers and storms exit by mid/late afternoon.

6/22 Bottom Line Up Front:
Scattered showers and storms are likely this afternoon and evening.
The primary hazards will be strong to damaging winds, but a brief tornado cannot be ruled out in southeast Tennessee.
Lots of moisture in the atmosphere means these storms will be capable of heavy downpours, with rainfall rates 1+ inches per hour at times. This could result in poor visibility during afternoon commutes and localized flooding.
