Fordtran VFD has their fundraiser on September 19. Please take a few minutes and go up HWY 77 and buy a few plates to eat and raffle tickets! Great food & great prizes!

A big thank you to everyone who donated items for our raffle. Would anyone like to buy or sell any raffle tickets for the Fordtran Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser September 19 of 2026 . We will be having barbecue plates to go serving from 11 AM to 3 PM. The cost of the plates are $15 a plate the cost of the raffle tickets are five dollars per ticket or a book of five tickets for $20.

Good information regarding lithium ion batteries!

🔥 Texas heat + lithium-ion batteries = something worth talking about.

Phones, power tools, e-bikes, rechargeable equipment, and other everyday devices often use lithium-ion batteries. They're convenient—but they don't particularly enjoy being cooked in a hot vehicle.

☀️ During the summer, the inside of a parked vehicle can get much hotter than the temperature outside. Excessive heat can damage batteries and increase the risk of overheating or fire.

A few simple precautions:
🔋 Don't leave battery-powered devices sitting in a hot vehicle for extended periods.
🔋 Never use a battery that is swollen, cracked, leaking, or unusually hot.
🔋 Use the charger designed for the device.
🔋 Charge devices on a hard surface—not a bed, couch, or other combustible material.

We can't do much about a Texas August being hot, but we can do something about what we leave baking in the truck. 😅

As these temps continue to rise and no measurable rainfall in the forecast, please do not light any fires.

With El Niño conditions developed and strengthening, "flash drought" or the rapid intensification of drought, has started. This will likely support increased wildfire activity into early fall in some parts of the state.

El Niño conditions don’t always produce the same outcome; however, 2015 and 2023, both strong El Niño years, brought periods of rapidly developed drought and increased wildfire activity to parts of the state.

Between July 1 and October 31, 2015, Texas A&M Forest Service responded to 667 wildfires that burned 98,940 acres. During the same period in 2023, we responded to 1,009 wildfires that burned 111,316 acres.

This year is showing some similarities to those previous patterns, with increasing drought and wildfire occurrence. Our Predictive Services department is closely monitoring weather, drought and vegetation, as these trending conditions can change.

Please dispose of batteries properly to reduce the risk of fires.

Batteries have also been known to cause house fires as a result of batteries being in the trash can.
