Tribal Solid Waste Advisory Network An organization BY Tribes... FOR Tribes. TSWAN has an established reputation of being a progressive organization providing on-the-ground assistance to tribes.

The Tribal Solid Waste Advisory Network recognizes the need to develop and enhance environmentally acceptable waste management practices in the sovereign nations, while remaining economically efficient for low-income population(s). TSWAN is a tribal response to the developments in solid waste management, and it is specifically an attempt to make the solutions fit in Indian Country and all tribal lands. TSWAN currently serves 36 tribes and villages throughout EPA’s Region 10 and thus programs and projects developed through TSWAN benefit, at minimum, this four-state area. However, many of our programs reach far beyond these boundaries as we share materials and information with tribes throughout the entire United States.

What if something considered waste could actually help strengthen the ground beneath our feet? 🇧🇷

In parts of Brazil, discarded tires have been repurposed to create retaining walls designed to help stabilize slopes and support vulnerable areas.

Instead of simply throwing old tires away, this approach gives them another practical use. Tires can be filled and arranged as part of engineered retaining structures, offering an interesting example of reuse in construction.

Projects like these show how everyday waste materials can sometimes be transformed into useful solutions when properly designed and tested.

A creative idea that combines engineering, reuse and environmental thinking. ♻️
