On June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight N**i Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot hold in Normandy. The D-Day cost was high – more than 9,000 Allied soldiers were killed or wounded – but more than 100,000 soldiers began the march across Europe to defeat Hi**er.

AMERICAN LEGION BINGO will take place on Friday, June 5 at Tehachapi Post 221, 125 E. F St., Tehachapi. Doors will open at 4pm, with games commencing at 6pm sharp.

Participants must be at least 18 years old. A minimum buy-in of $15 per player is required, with a second card costing $10 and each additional card $5.

Only participating individuals are permitted inside the bingo hall during games. Seating is limited to 80 players; early arrival is recommended to secure a seat.

The snack bar will offer hamburgers, hotdogs, snacks, desserts, and soft drinks, with additional menu items available on a rotational basis.

Bingo is held the first Friday of each month and is open to the public. Proceeds directly support programs benefiting America's children, veterans, and military families within our community.

The Tehachapi Honor Flight Veterans Breakfast is scheduled for this Saturday, May 30.

The event will be held at Christian Life Assembly, 920 W. Valley Blvd., Tehachapi. Doors will open at 8am for a meet and greet, with coffee, orange juice, and donuts available. Breakfast will be served at 9am.

Admission is free for all veterans and active duty personnel, while a $5 donation is requested from other attendees to help offset costs. Each veteran will receive a complimentary door prize drawing ticket.

Please note that Honor Flight Veterans' Breakfasts are typically held on the last Saturday of every month. We encourage you to mark your calendars and invite fellow veterans.

Additionally, volunteers are needed to assist with setup on Friday, May 29 at 5pm at the church. Any support is greatly appreciated.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of their courage, devotion, and selfless service.

May we never forget those who gave their lives for our country, and may we continue to honor their legacy through unity, gratitude, and service to others.
