Today was “manes and tails day,” otherwise known as spa day for the mares. We worked our way through the first two barns, gently persuading manes and tails to give up their knots, smoothing everything out, and making the ladies look positively glamorous.
And then there’s Witches Brew.
This is her immediately after her beauty session—because naturally, after achieving peak elegance, she decided the best possible next step was… a full-body roll in the mud. Apparently, nothing says “thank you for the makeover” quite like turning yourself into a swamp creature.

The United Pegasus Foundation is heartbroken to learn of the passing of sweet Endo. The world has lost a truly extraordinary soul, and our hearts go out to Morgan, his devoted guardian for 26 beautiful years.
Endo showed the world just how intelligent, loving, and deeply attuned a horse can be. His trust, his spirit, and his emotional awareness touched countless lives. He was a remarkable ambassador for the profound bond between humans and horses, and his legacy of love and resilience will live on in every heart he inspired.

CARMA announced today that it will again offer the Messineo Makeover Scholarship in 2026, continuing its commitment to supporting Thoroughbred aftercare and second-career opportunities for retired racehorses.

Established through a generous legacy gift from longtime racing supporter Nancy Messineo, the Messineo Makeover Scholarship was created to help offset the financial barriers associated with competing at the Thoroughbred Makeover, particularly for participants representing the West Coast.

The scholarship supports graduates of CARMA’s Placement Program and reflects CARMA’s broader mission to promote successful transitions from racing to meaningful second careers. By assisting horsemen and women pursuing national competition opportunities, the program helps spotlight the talent within the region while reinforcing the importance of long-term aftercare.

Additional details regarding eligibility, application timelines, and award structure for the 2026 scholarship will be announced later this year.

The United Pegasus Foundation is a sanctuary dedicated to Thoroughbred horses who have been retired from racing. Currently 120 horses call UPF home. Feeding and caring for so many animals is a significant financial challenge, and we are deeply grateful for the generous support we receive from organizations such as CARMA, Thoroughbred Aftercare, Thoroughbred Charities of America, After the Finish Line, The Teddy Cole Foundation, our monthly sponsors and all our donors throughout the year. Their support is crucial to our ability to provide a safe and nurturing environment for these magnificent animals. Thank you again for your support and Happy New Year.
