How It Started:
Biking Beyond Borders started in my childhood without me knowing it. Whilst growing up in Cleveland, Ohio and moving to Southern California, my life was full of twists and turns, good and bad, guiding me down an unknown path that presented opportunities and a story for me to realize. From my own personal struggles or "borders"; whether it was battling epilepsy, shyness, or knee su
rgery, I found the freedom and strength needed within cycling. Without a bicycle, I would have been limited to the borders of my own neighborhood or self loathing. The bicycle has transportation, to me, a bicycle can go beyond any perceived borders. A bicycle is freedom. Thus in my travels to El Salvador and Costa Rica visiting family, I found and saw first hand how the bicycle was more than a recreational activity, but a means of life and transportation for so many elsewhere. Growing up seeing El Salvador transform from their Civil War in the early 90's as a child to the remarkable growth in present day as an adult, I always wanted to help in some way, but how? Well now as a sponsored elite cyclist and coach ingrained` in the local Southern California cycling industry and mentored by some amazing industry individuals, it all clicked. In riding and conversing with elite cyclists of El Salvador, I realized their need for support. They were unaware of the opportunities or sponsorships abroad with major cycling companies, that were not readily available locally. The thought of a major US company sponsoring or supporting them to take their career to a new level was absurd. All they needed was direction or guidance.Hence, Biking Beyond Borders will take this concept to another level in creating an international team and community of cycling enthusiasts and athletes whom are figureheads in their own regards, both here and abroad, fighting their own personal "borders". All of which will be supported by an organization comprised of partnerships with the industry's leading companies and individuals. Overcome your border! Founder
