🐾 Ever wondered what the difference is between a Non-Profit Rescue and a Municipal Animal Shelter? πŸ€” Our latest blog post breaks it all down!

Both play absolutely vital roles in our communities and work tirelessly to help animals in need, but they operate a bit differently:

πŸ›οΈ Municipal Shelters: Usually government-funded and open-admission, meaning they take in every stray or surrendered animal that comes through their doors. They do the heavy lifting for our community's homeless pets!
❀️ Non-Profit Shelters & Rescues: Funded by generous donors like YOU! They often operate as limited-admission (or no-kill) facilities and pull vulnerable animals from municipal shelters to give them a second chance.

The biggest takeaway? They are on the same team. 🀝 When municipal shelters and non-profits work together, we can save so many more lives. 🐢🐱

Imagine a shelter process where every step is streamlined to ensure the best outcomes for animals and community well-being. Managed intake at municipal shelters is revolutionizing these facilities by emphasizing structure and efficiency. This approach is designed to reduce wait times, prevent overcrowding, and ensure that every animal is given the appropriate level of care from the moment it enters the shelter. It incorporates modern protocols and technology to manage intake flow smoothly, while providing shelter staff with actionable insights for better decision-making.

Huge shout out to volunteers Rose and Jesse with For the dogs for coming out to assist the City of Bakersfield Animal Care Center with their program with ROC.
One of our key elements we are focusing on is education and youth programs.

This class is full of future vets, groomers, behaviorist, and other animal welfare jobs. They are the future of rescue. They will be a crucial component to making and keeping Bakersfield no-kill.

It’s so awesome to see our city shelter do more to combat these issues and fight the problems head on. We are so appreciative to be partnered with the Bakersfield shelter. We will do our part to help them reach their goals.

For the Dogs and the Bakersfield shelter needs more exposure and support. Please like and share πŸ™‚

If you have connections to get us involved with more students and kids please leave a comment or tag someone who does. Let’s reach as many kids as possible. Or if you have some ideas on what we can do please let us know. We would love to hear from you.
