It's that time of year again! Monarch butterflies will be flying south through Great Smoky Mountains National Park on their way to Mexico. Come meet our very own butterfly park ranger who can answer all your butterfly questions!

A free event will take place on Saturday, September 14, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Sugarlands Visitor Center. All are welcome to join for activities, information about butterfly tagging, and helpful hints for how to support our fluttering friends!

Happy National Hummingbird Day! Did you know that there are over 350 species of hummingbirds, and they can only be found in the Western Hemisphere? These tiny powerhouses are more than just a beautiful sight, they're vital to our ecosystems🌍

Hummingbirds can flap their wings up to 70 times per second and travel thousands of miles during migration. Their incredible speed and agility make them expert pollinators, helping to sustain a wide variety of flowering plants. In fact, some plants are specially adapted to be pollinated only by hummingbirds!

Let's celebrate these fascinating creatures by taking steps to protect their habitats and ensuring they continue to thrive.
