NavajoYES offers outdoor adventures, school-based programs, youth service initiatives and educational resources for schools and communities across the Navajo Nation. Our outdoor adventure activities are the core of the program. We offer outings year-round at Grand Canyon, Navajo Mountain, Rainbow Bridge, Chuska Mountains and other cool (and also pretty warm) spots, combining adventure with persona
l enrichment and engaging learning experiences. The Tour de Rez program blends mountain biking, backpacking, rafting and hiking for hundreds of Navajo youth on a unique summertime journey. Our staff visits schools across the reservation, providing presentations to promote lifelong fitness and healthy, drug-free living. We strive to instill in youth a sense of empowerment by offering opportunities for meaningful community service. The current emphasis of the projects is on trail building and park restoration. Our areas of focus include Twin Falls Trail near T'iis Nazbas, Arizona; Squirrel Springs near Tohatchi, New Mexico; Narbona Pass near Sheepsprings, New Mexico; the Rainbow Trail at Navajo Mountain, Utah; and Buffalo Pass above Red Valley, Arizona. Creating a sense of pride in Dine' Bikeyah and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifetsyle are the primary goals of our educational resources. Through an annual calendar, "Tales from the Trail" newsletter, and our trail guides, we work to share with youth a more positive way of seeing the world around them.
