🐴💙 **Growing old isn't easy... even for horses.**

Right now, we have **9 senior horses with significant dental challenges.** When horses live long, happy lives, worn and damaged teeth often become part of the journey.

Many of our seniors can no longer chew hay the way they once could, so we have to adapt their diets to keep them healthy and maintain their weight.

Their meals include a combination of:

🌾 **Senior feed (a major part of their diet)**
• 80 pounds every day
• 48 bags every month
• $30 per 50-pound bag
• **$1,440 every month**

🪣 **Rehydrated hay cubes**
The cubes are soaked and broken down into a soft mash that's small enough for proper chewing and digestion.

• **$400 every month**

🌾 **Hay for the rest of the herd**
• 150 bales every month
• **$20 per bale**

🧂 **Large mineral salt blocks**
• We need 16 every month
• **$12 each**

💚 **KAHM CBD pellets**
Many of our seniors struggle with arthritis, navicular disease, and the everyday aches that come with age. We've found that KAHM CBD pellets often provide significant relief and help improve their comfort and quality of life.

• 24 ounces every day
• **$1,200 every month**

These horses have worked, loved, carried, trusted, and served people throughout their lives.

🐴 FULL-TIME HORSE CARE SPECIALIST NEEDED – LIVE-ON-SITE POSITION
📍 Tecate, California – San Diego County
Tecate Horse Rescue is looking for an experienced horse person to join us full-time at our 100-acre, off-grid rescue ranch in Tecate, California.
This is not an entry-level horse position.
The most important qualification is the ability to really know horses — to recognize when something isn't right, understand injuries and illness, notice changes in weight, movement, behavior or condition, and confidently and safely handle a variety of horses.
We care for approximately 30 rescued horses with different backgrounds, ages, medical needs and levels of training.
We need someone experienced with:
• Daily feeding, watering and horse care
• Recognizing illness, injury, lameness and changes in condition
• Safe catching, haltering, leading and handling
• Grooming and basic wound/medical care
• Groundwork and evaluating horse behavior
• Working with fearful, inexperienced or difficult horses
• Assisting veterinarians and farriers
• Maintaining health, feeding and medication records
• Helping horses progress toward adoption when appropriate
• Basic ranch chores and keeping horse areas safe and organized
This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position and you MUST live on the property.
We have an RV available for the right person, or you may bring your own RV/trailer. Because this is a working rescue ranch, you also need to be willing to assist with horse emergencies after hours when necessary.
🌵 ABOUT THE RANCH
We are located in rural Tecate, California, in southeastern San Diego County. The ranch is beautiful, peaceful and remote — but it is also off-grid ranch living. We use well water, solar power and generators. If you love horses, open space and ranch life, it can be an amazing place to live and work.
Tecate Horse Rescue is a small nonprofit, so we're looking for someone who understands that rescue work isn't glamorous. There are long days, dirty boots, emergencies and horses that need patience — but there is also the satisfaction of watching a horse become healthy, confident and ready for a new life.
Compensation is based on experience and demonstrated horse skills.
We are especially interested in someone with significant hands-on horse experience who is looking for a long-term position, not simply a place to stay.

🚨 URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR THE HERD THAT HEALS 🚨

Every single day, we rely on generators to keep our rescue running.

Our generators power the well that provides water for our horses and the cement mixer we use daily to prepare our horses' hydration lunch—a nourishing mix of molasses, salt, camelina oil, and soaked alfalfa cubes that helps keep our rescued horses healthy and hydrated, especially during the summer months.

Right now, our generators are failing, and we need your help immediately.
