⚠️ Homeschool freedom can disappear much faster than families realize.

Connecticut was once considered one of the freest homeschool states in the country, and now new legislation has been signed requiring mandatory background checks simply for parents to homeschool their own children.

No matter where families stand politically, this should be a reminder to homeschoolers everywhere that freedoms are rarely protected by staying silent.

In West Virginia, we are incredibly blessed with homeschool freedom, but maintaining that freedom requires informed, engaged, and vigilant families who understand how quickly laws and regulations can change.

WVHEA will continue working to protect parental rights and homeschool freedom for West Virginia families while encouraging parents to stay informed, connected, and involved in legislative issues affecting home education.

Now more than ever, homeschool families must support one another, stay educated on legislation, and continue advocating for the freedom to direct our children’s education.

🚨 WVHEA LEGISLATIVE ALERT 🚨

West Virginia homeschool families — we are asking everyone to stay informed and pay close attention to the upcoming House Education Committee meeting regarding absenteeism legislation and discussions that could directly impact homeschooling freedom and parental rights in our state.

For years, homeschool families have worked hard to build strong educational communities, protect educational choice, and provide individualized learning opportunities for our children. We believe it is important that homeschoolers are represented fairly and accurately in these conversations.

As we head into the final stretch of the homeschool year, we wanted to make sure you have all the important information, reminders, and upcoming events right at your fingertips. From end-of-year assessments to exciting opportunities like the West Virginia Homeschool Convention, there is so much to look forward to!

📌 Important End-of-Year Reminders:

All West Virginia homeschool families are required to complete an
annual assessment or testing EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

For students in 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 11th grades, you must
turn in your assessment results to your local Board of Education or your School Choice email.

🗓 All assessments are due by June 30.
