Dr. Ken Hoffman

Today we share the sad news of the loss of Dr. Ken Hoffman, friend, and board member. Anyone who has had children who participated in Teaneck Soccer over the past 25 years knows Ken as “Teaneck soccer”. Ken was a past president, referee, referee assignor, Top Soccer organizer and coach. Ken was instrumental in growing our league in its early years, setting the stage to what the league is today.
While Ken was passionate about the sport of soccer and building TJSL, he spent much time building our referee program and our Top Soccer program. Ken spent many hours recruiting high school aged teens to be referees, mentoring them and helping to further their referee career. You would always see Ken on the field either refereeing a game himself or shadowing a new referee helping to refine their skills.
Ken worked to expand access to soccer via the Top Soccer program. This program opens access to soccer to disabled children. The program started as an indoor program and quickly expanded to an outdoor program as well. TJSL was recognized as a leading contributor to the Top Soccer program Ken ran with his wife Vivian and Jim Dunleavy.
Running the soccer program includes many activities that gain us access to fields including their setup and continued maintenance. Ken helped to build the bridges with the township of Teaneck so that we had use of the Sportsplex and the many fields around town where our children played for many years past and many to come. Ken was recently recognized for his contributions to Teaneck Soccer with the naming of the soccer side of the Sportsplex to Hoffman’s Pitch. Each and every time one plays on Hoffman’s pitch you will be honoring the memory Dr. Ken Hoffman who contributed selflessly to further soccer in Teaneck.
The board of directors of Teaneck Junior Soccer League join together to send condolences to Vivian, Alex, and Nick, their wives and the extended Hoffman family on the loss of Ken. Ken, we miss you.
