Fatherhood Program

Fatherhood Program The Fatherhood Program strives to improve relationships between fathers and their children through mental, phyisical, spiritual, and relationship guidance.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, “...24 million children in America (or one out of three) live in biological father-absent homes.”
To help meet this need, Clinch Valley Community Action, Inc., is offering the Fatherhood Program- a series of workshops that are designed to improve the relationship between father and child. This program teaches fathers how to relate to and understand their chil

dren- not how to parent- while reinforcing how important their role as a father is to the healthy development of their child.

There are four classes offered through the Fatherhood Program. Three of which are open- free of charge- to the general public, while the last is intended for inmates.

• “Why Knot?”-a marriage readiness program for males that correlates the relationship between healthy committed marriage relationships and responsible Fatherhood. It is designed for those who are not yet married but are considering the idea, (i.e. never married, divorced, widowed, etc. they may or may not be fathers).

• Dr. Dad- a workshop that outlines and explains the essential health and safety information one needs to know when caring for children, especially newborns, infants, and toddlers. It helps teach “the basics” to promote health, identify and treat illness and prevent injury. It is specifically geared toward those who will soon be fathers, new fathers, and those considering fatherhood in the future. Other fathers may also find the class informative and helpful.

• 24/7 Dad- a workshop that focuses on characteristics that every father needs. It covers the universal aspects of fatherhood so that men of all cultures, races, religions, and backgrounds can benefit from the program. This workshop is good for any and all interested males; those who are fathers, those who are soon-to-be fathers, and those who one day hope to be fathers.

• Inside/Out Dad- a workshop designed to promote the father/child relationship while the father's absence is required from the home. It is a reentry program designed to connect inmate fathers to their families and prepare them for release. This Program helps reduce recidivism rates by reconnecting inmates to their families and providing motivation for them to get out and stay out.
