Summer is here.
Heat, water, schedule changes, and crowded places can be especially challenging for children on the autism spectrum. Some children may not say they feel hot, thirsty, dizzy, or overwhelmed, so it helps to watch for signs like irritability, fatigue, flushed cheeks, sudden refusal of activities, or increased sensory distress.
A few simple supports can help: favorite cups or straws, cold drinks, popsicles, fruit, visual timers, and regular “drink breaks” every 20 minutes.
Thank you to ABS Kids for sharing these autism-friendly summer safety tips for families.
