SWCRC President Ron Hinrichs in Crain's Detroit Business: Wayne County Transit Initiative Vital to Economic Growth, Quality of Life

Link in comments.

"In my service to the employers and workforce of Southern Wayne County, I often engage with local leaders and members of the community who are passionate about creating meaningful opportunities to enjoy a good quality of life. One point consistently stands out; transportation and the efficient movement of talent remains a critical challenge in our region. Simply put, a regional transit system can be a vital means to positive economic growth in Wayne County. I often find that employers and workforce leaders alike recognize this fact, and agree that a reliable, consistent and effective transit system can connect workers to quality employment opportunities, patients to healthcare providers, and visitors to local destinations that truly enrich the living experience in our community.

For Wayne County, transit helps generate regional economic competitiveness at a time when affordability continues to remain a real concern for many Americans. Efficient and reliable public transportation is often identified by job providers and workforce leaders as a resource to empower the movement of workers, thereby attracting meaningful investment and good-paying jobs for local residents. That’s why employers of all sizes, local workers, and residents understand the tremendous opportunity our community can seize upon this upcoming election and many are voicing their support for a proposal on the Tuesday, Aug. 4 ballot to expand effective public transit across Wayne County."

The Downriver Community Conference (DCC), a longtime partner of the SWCRC, hosted dozens of community leaders this afternoon to celebrate the grand opening of its new headquarters in Wyandotte on Jefferson Ave. next to the 27th District Court. The building is the former Wayne Metro Community Action Agency out-county headquarters and was renamed the John D. Dingell Office Building to host the offices of the DCC, Downriver Mutual Aid and emergency services dispatch, and the region's Michigan Works services. The DCC will provide critical resources to the community from this new location, including economic development, workforce development and training programs, veterans support programs, weatherization services, and so much more. The DCC serves 20 municipalities including all 18 Downriver communities along with Dearborn and Dearborn Heights. At the event, SWCRC President/CEO Ron Hinrichs spoke alongside DCC Executive Director Jim Perry, Wyandotte Mayor Rob DeSana, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, State Senator Darrin Camilleri, and others.

"The DCC has been one of our closest partners for decades as we work to enhance resources and economic opportunity for Downriver's workforce, employers, and municipalities," commented Hinrichs. "With its new location near Wayne Metro's new out-county headquarters on Jefferson Ave. in Wyandotte, the DCC's headquarters provides a critical hub for essential workforce development, basic needs, public safety, economic and brownfield development, and more strategic resources to continue to take our region toward greater prosperity. Congratulations to our friends Jim Perry, Lisa Wayne, Jazmine Danci, and the entire team at the DCC, and we are looking forward to continuing to grow our great partnership to benefit the entire Downriver community."
