Can you help?

UPDATE: We have someone available to get the bats from Houston to Madisonville - we are in need of a transporter to meet in Madisonville and deliver them to Arlington.

We need a bat hero or two! Transport needed for injured bats (see our post below about the emergency situation in south TX) from Houston/Conroe to Arlington, TX tomorrow (10/7). There are at least two critically injured bats; there may be more depending on what we find tonight. This transport can be shared as a relay if necessary.

WHAT WILDLIFE DO WE ACCEPT?!

We rehabilitate native/protected small mammals including:
Raccoons
Skunks
Foxes
Bats
Armadillos
Opossums
Squirrels
Cottontails/rabbits
Bobcats (we can, but we don’t … but our friends do!)

We CANNOT accept threatened or endangered species, or any migratory birds or other federally protected wildlife. These animals require the appropriate federal permits in addition to state authorization.

This means we can’t take 99% of birds, and the other 1%? See below …

What about invasive, non-native, or pest species? Certain species cannot legally be rehabilitated and released. Taking them into care means they must remain permanent nonrelease animals. As a small, home-based wildlife rehabilitation, we simply do not have the space or resources to provide lifetime housing for these animals. Because of that, we cannot accept:

• Muscovy ducks
• Pigeons
• European starlings
• House sparrows
• Nutria
• Rats/Mice

We know it can be frustrating when you find an animal and we have to say no. It isn’t because we don’t care. Wildlife rehabilitation is heavily regulated, and we have to work within our permits, the law, our available space, and the species we are equipped to properly rehabilitate.

Sometimes, I have left lane money; but I never have bail money. We can’t risk it. When in doubt, message us! If it isn’t a species we can accept, we can at least help point you in the right direction when possible.

Most of the time, I prefer that the finders name their baby. It’s fun. Sometimes, I name the animals based on personality. 😈

Happy Friday!!

Just a friendly reminder: Please don’t hand orphaned or injured wildlife over to random strangers on social media. Ask questions. Request a permit number. Verify, verify, VERIFY.

The state requires a permit to rehabilitate wildlife.

If you’re already spending the time trying to find help for an animal, spend the extra few minutes making sure that animal is actually going somewhere safe.

Raising a squirrel once, or having your bestie’s uncle’s girlfriend who had a raccoon growing up, does not qualify someone to rehabilitate wildlife. Many people are looking for a novelty pet.

Being willing to take wildlife and being qualified to care for wildlife are two very different things.

🕸️🎃 PLEASE SKIP THE FAKE SPIDER WEBS OUTDOORS THIS HALLOWEEN! 🎃🕸️

Those stretchy fake spider webs may look spooky and festive, but they can become a dangerous trap for wildlife.

🦇 Bats
🐦 Birds
🐿️ Squirrels
🦎 Lizards
🦋 Butterflies and other small animals

Wildlife can easily become tangled in the thin fibers. The more they struggle to escape, the more tightly the material can wrap around their wings, legs, feet, or bodies—causing serious injury or even death.

If you love the look of fake spider webs, please use them INSIDE your home, where wildlife can't become entangled in them. Outdoors, choose wildlife-friendly Halloween decorations made from solid materials that animals are less likely to get caught in.

Halloween should be spooky for us—not deadly for our wild neighbors. 🧡

Please share and help spread the word. A simple change in the way we decorate can save a life.
