We're also known as Tlacuache Borracho Preserve. We are a small wildlife rehabilitation group in the Houston/Galveston area. Our rehabbers are permitted to treat small mammals. We generally care for raccoons, opossums, squirrels, skunks, bunnies, and small rodents. However, we can help connect you with other rehabbers. The wildlife rehabilitation community is not an extension of any government ent

ity and does not receive any funding. We operate solely on donations and the kindness of our supporters. We cannot charge for taking animals, but we will graciously accept donations and supplies. https://www.bonfire.com/store/the-drunk-opossum/

Be a bat hero! Bat World Sanctuary is working to compile a running list of bat transport volunteers across the US. Wildlife rehabilitators across the country are swamped with calls this time of year. As rescuers, we are not funded by the government, nor do we receive compensation for our work. We vo...

OK, y’all… looks like the nasty weather is fixing to bring us together. Let’s talk about what that means.

If you find an orphaned or injured wild animal: Warm. Dark. Quiet.

Do not give food or water. Even the best intentions can do more harm and may prove deadly.

After serious weather, you might see wildlife on porches, in garages, or under vehicles. They’re often just trying to dry off, warm up, and catch their breath before moving on. We may not need to intervene.

And please, never handle a bat with your bare hands.

We also need your help during storm season. I may be the first person you had contact with about this animal, but you might be the tenth call we’ve gotten since breakfast. Be patient and be prepared to work with us on transportation or meeting arrangements.

Thank you all for your support. I have a feeling I’ll be texting some of you very soon!!!

XC is a local wildlife group in Galveston County. We met during the bat class. Laura and Lindsey have been a great support system. We are blessed to have this positive and uplifting relationship with our local rehabs. ❤️

Midnight, a young and rather foolish evening bat, was cavorting in south Houston last week when, having failed to pay attention to where she was going, she collided with a harsh and unforgiving door. The crash resulted in a comminuted compound fracture of the left humerus - a very painful injury indeed. With her wing quite literally in pieces, she was lucky to be found quickly. Rehabber Erika at The Drunk Opossum provided emergency care, and our fabulous transport volunteers Dennis, Casey and Jodie ran the relay to get her here.

This morning, Midnight is resting comfortably, with pain medication and antibiotics. She will not be releasable, so she will join our permanent colony and teach other rehabilitators how to properly care for these amazing animals.
