Florida Keys Children's Shelter Serving Monroe County for 40 years, the not-for-profit Children’s Shelter has touched more than 24,000 lives through its no-cost programs.

The kids had an amazing time out on the water this week with Paddle the Florida Keys!

From learning new skills to enjoying the beauty of the Florida Keys from a different perspective, our paddleboarding adventure was the perfect way to spend the day. Experiences like these help build confidence, encourage teamwork, and create lasting memories for the youth we serve.

Our youth spent time giving back at the Upper Keys Humane Society.

From helping clean and care for the animals to spending time socializing kittens waiting for their forever homes, our residents got a firsthand look at the dedication it takes to support homeless pets in our community.

Volunteer experiences like these help teach responsibility, compassion, and the importance of giving back. A huge thank you to the Upper Keys Humane Society for welcoming our group and allowing our youth to make a difference—one kitten cuddle at a time.

☀️ Summer camp is officially underway! ☀️

Our campers kicked off the season with an unforgettable day on the water thanks to Anchors Away. We headed out to Alligator Reef for snorkeling, explored the crystal-clear waters, and wrapped up the day at the sandbar.

There’s no better way to start a Florida Keys summer than making memories, building confidence, and enjoying everything our beautiful community has to offer.

A huge thank you to Papa Joe’s Waterfront for supporting the Florida Keys Children’s Shelter through their Give the Gift of Camp campaign this June!

Throughout the month, guests dining at Papa Joe’s will have the opportunity to round up their purchases through the restaurant’s Toast system, with 100% of those donations benefiting the children and teens we serve.

In addition, Papa Joe’s is helping spread the word by displaying our campaign materials and QR code, making it even easier for the community to support summer camp experiences for local youth.

We are incredibly grateful for community partners like Papa Joe’s Waterfront whose generosity helps create unforgettable memories, new experiences, and a brighter future for the children in our care.

Last Friday, our residents celebrated the end of the school year with a fun-filled BBQ and a special visit from the Islamorada Fire Department!

The firefighters helped everyone cool off with the water hose, shared plenty of laughs, and even surprised the kids with ice cream to top off the afternoon.

A huge thank you to the men and women of the Islamorada Fire Department for taking time out of their day to make the start of summer a little more memorable for our youth. We appreciate your kindness, generosity, and commitment to our community!
