The Taunton Global War on Terrorism Memorial is located in Taunton, MA next to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Historic Church Green

For Further information on our memorial, please visit our website. Duffy was the 1st Taunton Resident killed in the Global War on Terror while serving in Iraq. He was assigned to A Co. 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain

Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, NY. He and 3 other Soldiers died June 4, 2008 in Tikrit, Iraq, of wounds suffered in Sharqat, Iraq, when his unit was attacked by enemy forces using small arms fire and hand grenades.

For veterans visiting the Brockton VA, the flag pole will be repaired soon.

This morning we experienced an unplanned issue with our flagpole at our Brockton campus and are currently unable to fly our American and POW/MIA flags. We are working to repair the flagpole as soon as possible. The flags will return as soon as repairs are finished and we will fly them with the proper respect and dignity they deserve.

Today we remember hometown hero SGT Shane P. Duffy, who was laid to rest 16 years ago today, after making the ultimate sacrifice during Operation Iraqi Freedom on June 4, 2008.

We also remember his Gold Star family - Shane's widow Jamie, daughter Mackenzie, parents Keavin and Frances, brother Keavin Jr., and sisters Kelsey & Shanon.
