Good evening Tatum,
I would like to provide the community with an update on the current status of the organization. At this time, the Chamber is not fully structured as a formal organization. There are no officially adopted bylaws or a formally established board of directors in place, and the organization has been operating in a more informal, committee-style capacity. Because of this, steps are now being taken to properly establish the Chamber’s foundation. This includes developing and adopting bylaws, creating clear policies and procedures, and forming an official board of directors to guide the organization moving forward. Previous committee members and volunteers have been informed and invited to participate in the formation of a formal board. At this time, and in order to move the organization forward and get it properly organized, the Chamber will temporarily operate under a sole director structure until a board is formally established. The Chamber is not subject to the New Mexico Open Meetings Act, as it is not a public body nor funded by taxpayer dollars. However, implementing proper structure such as agendas, approved meeting minutes, and defined leadership roles is essential to ensure transparency and accountability. Maintaining the trust of our donors, members, and community is a top priority. Without proper governance in place, that trust can be at risk. Establishing a strong and structured organization will allow the Chamber to operate effectively and continue supporting local businesses and community growth.
On a positive note, I am actively organizing plans for our 4th of July Celebration and working toward bringing a meaningful, family-friendly event to Tatum. This celebration is something our community looks forward to, and my goal is to make it a memorable experience that brings families together, supports local businesses, and highlights the pride we have in our town. While I’m focused on getting the Chamber properly structured and organized, I remain committed to continuing events like this that enhance the quality of life in our community.
I am working through these matters and doing my very best to handle everything appropriately. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we are also preparing to welcome our baby girl very soon.
