Why become a Friend of The Shepherd Center? Harry had been homeless for a year. Through diligence and perseverance, Harry searched for employment and was hired for two part-time jobs in the food industry. After a month working two jobs, he now works a full-time job in health care and loves the job and people. Tarpon Springs Shepherd Center provided food, hygiene, clothing and support services as well as the bus passes Harry used to attend job interviews.

Why become a Friend of The Shepherd Center?
A veteran and homeless for eight years, David was a client of Tarpon Springs Shepherd Center as well as other Pinellas County agencies receiving food, shelter, hygiene and services assistance. In August, the Outreach department successfully coordinated with the Veteran’s Administration to provide stable housing.

Why become a Friend? Mark, a father with a family of four, has relied on the Shepherd Center to supplement their pantry during hard times. According to him, the services have been life-saving. Without access to the pantry, oftentimes he and his wife would go without food so that the children could eat. Fighting hunger by providing a helping hand UP – this is what The Shepherd Center is all about. Help us continue to provide food for our neighbors and friends in need by becoming a Friend. Why become a Friend of The Shepherd Center? A disabled veteran, Scott was a client of Tarpon Springs Shepherd Center and received food, clothing and hygiene. Although stably housed, Scott needed to increase his income and obtain a job to accommodate his disabilities. The Outreach department coordinated with an area non-profit employment agency and Scott was hired in September. Since being employed, Scott’s demeanor is confident, he is happier, and in his words ‘once again a productive member of society’.

Why become a Friend of The Shepherd Center?
Leah had been homeless for at least four (4) years. She was welcomed and encouraged by Executive Director, Ada Del Gais to consider TSSC a ‘safe’ place. Through the years, TSSC provided hygiene, clothing, food and friendship by staff in the Resale Store, Food Pantry, Administration and Outreach. This level of support by all TSSC, gave her the strength to recognize and acknowledge her needs. She reached out to voice her desire for help and the Outreach Department responded by initiateding and facilitating mental health treatment services and residential placement. Recently, she was successfully discharged to the next level of treatment. Her ‘dream’ to be reunited with her son, is now a ‘reality’.

Why become a Friend of The Shepherd Center?
A family (couple and three (3) children) arrived in Outreach from out-of-state and living in their car. The Shepherd Center provided resources of food, hygiene, clothing and furniture. In addition, housing and employment resources were given and state benefit applications (ACCESS). In less than a month, they are stably housed, children in school and both adults fully employed.
