We’re grateful to the Grant County Beat for covering conversations about mining, water, and community impacts in southwest New Mexico.

As mining claim activity increases across the state – including in regions with long histories of extraction like Grant County – local reporting and community voices matter.

Members of the NM Mining Watch steering committee recently shared a guest piece with the Grant County Beat about why communities across New Mexico are paying closer attention to mining proposals and decision-making processes.

The piece also features perspectives from Allyson Siwik of Gila Resources Information Project on why access to clear information and meaningful community involvement are so important as these conversations continue.

Will you help us reach our goal?

This Spring, we are facing renewed pressure from extractive industries, ongoing threats to water quality, and a rapidly shifting political landscape that puts decades of protections at risk.

That is why your support today matters.

Please consider donating a gift to our 2026 Spring Challenge.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 by June 12th to power the next phase of this work.

Your donation gives us the flexibility to respond quickly to emerging threats, advance critical restoration projects, and continue defending the waters that New Mexico communities, wildlife, and future generations depend on.

Thank you for standing with us and supporting our mission.

🚽 Every summer, thousands of people enjoy the Upper Pecos Canyon and these portable toilets play an important role in helping protect the river, recreation sites, and water quality throughout the watershed.
Your support helps us pay for and maintain 10 portable toilet units throughout the canyon, and our goal is to keep them serviced and available through the end of September.

If you’re able to support this effort, every contribution truly helps:

A big shoutout and thank you to Roybal's Septic Service for helping us make this happen on the ground each season 🙌
Because taking care of the Pecos means taking care of all of it.

Amigos Bravos needs your help to protect New Mexico’s waters.

Federal rollbacks have stripped protections from most rivers, streams, and wetlands, making strong state rules critical. Senate Bill 21 created a state permitting program and now we need strong implementation.

You can help by taking BOTH these actions:
• Sign our petition before June 8th
• Sign up to give public comment at hearings June 8–18th, 1pm daily

Please stay tuned at NM Mining Watch for how Amigos Bravos and our partners are standing up to the uranium industry in New Mexico.

A Colorado uranium company recently submitted a finalized operation plan to New Mexico officials, signaling that it — along with multiple other out-of-state companies — is increasingly serious about mining uranium in the state. Energy Fuels, Inc. submitted a 273-page operations and “reclamatio...

"Since 2023 when the La Cieneguilla Industrial PFAS Groundwater Plume was communicated to the Community of La Cieneguilla by the County of Santa Fe, Amigos Bravos continues to support our Indigenous and Land Grant Community through technical assistance and that assistance includes:

- Cultural competency and respect for our Community by seeking to understand our unique needs and asking permission before taking action

- Providing liaison connectivity with the various municipalities regarding policy, and rule-making legislation

- Providing communication between other stakeholders from outside of our Indigenous and Land Grant boundaries, including other state and federal agencies

- Seeking resources to support the mitigation of further PFAS contamination

- Seeking access and options to clean water resources

- Seeking support for health issues related to the PFAS Plume
and supporting our environmental justice issues related to the PFAS Plume and beyond."
