Estate planning helps ensure that the people we love are cared for and allows us to be thoughtful about what we leave behind. For many people, that also includes the community they call home.
For more than 30 years, Taos Community Foundation has been a trusted partner in local giving, helping people create lasting gifts for Taos and western Colfax counties (and beyond) and the causes they care about. Over the past decade alone, more than $18.3 million has gone back into our community through grants to local nonprofits and scholarships that invest in locally driven solutions and the people of Taos and western Colfax counties.
Legacy gifts have helped TCF respond to the needs and opportunities of our community for decades—from scholarships and nonprofit grants to projects like the free youth summer camp. More recently, community generosity has supported local food pantries and hotel vouchers for families in need.
Legacy gifts can be as unique as the people who make them. You can support the community’s most pressing needs, a cause that you care deeply about—such as education, the arts, the environment, or animal welfare—or one or many specific nonprofit organizations. TCF provides the long-term stewardship, financial infrastructure, and investment management to carry out your vision over time. We can also work alongside your attorney, financial advisor, or other professional advisors to help make the process easier.
Making a future gift can be surprisingly simple. It may be made by including Taos Community Foundation in your will or trust, naming TCF as a beneficiary of an IRA or investment account, or by giving real property or other appreciated assets. Your plan remains completely yours, and can be changed at any time. You may also leave a statement of intent with TCF describing how you would like your gift used, which can make it easier to update your intentions over time.
Planning can also create opportunities to structure gifts thoughtfully, take advantage of available tax benefits, and make things simpler for your family later.
