📣As promised, we’re providing an update on our activities regarding the Special Area Policy. TVVA Board members met with Pima County management on Monday, August 17th, to discuss the staff-recommended boundary map and how it relates to the Tanque Verde Valley Special Area Policy.
TVVA acknowledged Pima County’s participation in the emergency SAP meeting on August 4, where County representatives were present, heard participants’ questions and concerns, and responded directly to the community. Pima County management expressed appreciation for the respectful and constructive dialogue that took place during that meeting and for TVVA’s continued engagement with the community.
During our meeting, TVVA shared additional input and feedback from the community, with a primary concern being the exclusion of ~50% of the Valley, particularly areas to the west and south, from the originally proposed boundary. The community emphasized the importance of recognizing Tanque Verde Valley as a geographically and culturally cohesive area, extending west to Sabino Creek rather than ending at Melpomene, and south to Broadway Road, including the “Notch.” TVVA underscored the importance of preserving the Valley’s unique character, identity, and sense of place. Key considerations included:
-Respect for the distinct geographical areas that make up the Tanque Verde Valley.
-Preservation of our strong community identity and sense of place.
-Recognition of the Valley’s longstanding equine, ranching, and farming community.
-Protection and appreciation of the area’s spectacular and highly characteristics, which are truly one-of-a-kind.
Pima County is reconsidering the information and community feedback presented by TVVA. Planning and Development management is expected to prepare a modified boundary recommendation for consideration by the Planning Commission. As soon as TVVA receives it, we will issue an update via email and the website.
