The Sweetpea Foundation

The Sweetpea Foundation Celina was a burn patient when she was three years old. She accidentally spilled hot chicken noodle soup on her chest. She had 1st & 2nd degree burns.

On Friday, January 14, 2005, Celina picked up a bowl of hot chicken noodle soup. When she picked up the bowl, it tilted & spilled on her chest. As a result of her burns, she was flown to John Hopkins by the State Medivac helicopter for 1st & 2nd degree burns on 10%-15% of her body. When we brought her home from the hospital, both of her arms were covered in bandages from the tips of her fingers al

l the way up to her elbows. She also had a huge bandage that covered her entire chest. Due to the expertise and caring of the paramedics, medivac troopers, & staff at John Hopkins, she has made a remarkable recovery and has very little scarring on her body from the burns. During the first two weeks after her injury, we had to find ways to minimize the pain when we would change her bandages. As a result of her experience, Celina wanted to create a foundation that would provide other children with happiness while they are recovering from illnesses or accidents or needing some assistance with emotional issues.
