A time capsule tucked away for more than 60 years is helping us share a piece of our Club history.

Our Chief Marketing Officer Cassandra Thomas and Foundation President Emeritus Glenn Permuy joined WUSF’s Florida Matters Live & Local to discuss the discovery, the history inside, and how these artifacts are being preserved and shared as Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay celebrates 100 years of impact.

Thank you to WUSF Public Media for sharing this piece of our history, and to Maureen Famiano and MEFMedia for helping us bring the story to a wider audience!

You can also see the capsule and its contents at our “100 Years of Impact” exhibit at the Tampa Bay History Center, now through November 30.

A mission to the moon is opening up new ways to learn! 🤖🌙

Through Robots Zoom to the Moon: Powered by Tampa Electric, Club members are exploring robotics while practicing literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, and teamwork.

In partnership with the Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County, the initiative pairs younger children with older elementary youth for hands-on activities using programmable Roamer robots. Following directions, sharing ideas, and working through challenges become part of completing a mission together.

These experiences bring academic success to life beyond the school day, giving children opportunities to discover, practice, and learn from one another.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this opportunity possible! đź’™

We went looking for pieces of our history to share in our centennial exhibit. We didn’t expect to find a copper box welded shut.

Inside was a time capsule from the 1962 opening of the Interbay Boys Club, filled with programs, photographs, and other pieces of a day that helped shape our story. FOX 13 News - Tampa Bay joined us as we took a look inside.

You can see the time capsule in our 100-year exhibit at the Tampa Bay History Center from October 1 through November 30. Thank you to Ariel Plasencia and FOX 13 for helping us share this discovery.
