The Tampa Bay Community Cancer Network (TBCCN) based at Moffitt Cancer Center, is a community-academic network of 28 community organizations and the cancer center. Housed in the Office of Community Outreach, Engagement, TBCCN is Moffitt’s 18+ year old community-academic partnership to address cancer disparities through outreach, education, and research.

As part of National Cancer Survivor Month, there are two free upcoming Zoom presentations on Nutrition and Cancer!

Offered by the Ponce Health Sciences University-Moffitt Cancer Center partnership Outreach Core, the presentations will be conducted via Zoom and will be offered in English and Spanish on Tuesday June 16, 2026.

The Office of Community Outreach and Engagement, in partnership with Discovery Science and the Patient and Family Advisory Program, invites you to a Patient Researcher Forum focused on head and neck cancers on Tuesday, August 18th. This event is taking place on Moffitt’s Magnolia campus, with a virtual attendance option available via Zoom.

This program will feature a caregiver perspective, presentations by Dr. Kedar Kirtane, Dr. Antonio L. Amelio and Daniella Bowen, a student researcher with the ENCOURAGE program. Patients and caregivers attending in person will also have the opportunity to participate in a lab tour.

The Patient Researcher Forum is designed to foster an intimate conversation between Moffitt patients and caregivers with faculty researchers and clinicians. These events are open to all, though advance registration is required.

☀️ May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month ☀️

A look at suncare habits across Florida found that in 17.9% of counties, residents report higher use of sunburn remedies than sunscreen. These are populations treating sun damage rather than preventing it.

Prevention is the more effective approach. Reapply sunscreen regularly, check the expiration date, and use broad-spectrum UV protection.

On May 20th, the ACT WONDER2S research community health educators Delilah Hernandez, Juanita Carbajal, and Crystal Gomez celebrated International Clinical Trials Day by hosting four successful events across Florida focused on honoring the patients, researchers, healthcare professionals, and community partners who make clinical research possible. In recognition of Brain Cancer Awareness Month, out recent Patient Researcher Forum (PRF) brought together patients, caregivers, clinicians, and researchers for an engaging conversation about brain cancer, the patient experience and the impact of research in our community.

Hosted by Dr. Stuart Maudsley, along with the COE (Community Outreach and Engagement) team at Moffitt Cancer Center, and the Patient Family Advisory Program under the guidance of Ms. Jacqueline Beaushaw, the PRF creates a space where community, patients and caregivers along with faculty researchers and clinicians can connect, share insights and inspire one another.

We are especially grateful to Mrs. Cassie Wood for sharing her powerful story as a caregiver. Cassie highlighted the many ways that cancer affects all aspects of one's life and family. She encouraged researchers to consider the impact of the patient's quality of life in their work.

Thank you also to our Moffitt clinical presenter, Dr. Patrick Grogan, and research presenters from the Department of Molecular Medicine - Drs. Derek Duckett and Smitha Pillai.

In recognition of Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, we want to show the impact of our Head and Neck Community Screening team in 2025.

Each year, the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance partners with hospitals, clinics, and medical centers to provide free head and neck cancer screenings at sites across the U.S. and globally.

Moffitt Cancer Center’s Head and Neck Oncology Program is part of this network, helping bring these screenings to Florida communities. In 2025, we provided free Head and Neck screenings to over 1,500 people!

Although April has passed, awareness and early detection remain important year-round. Learn more and help spread the word about the impact of screening and early diagnosis.

We’re excited to share about our recent cohort of the Youth Ambassadors Reaching Out (YARO) program, proudly implemented in partnership with Front Porch Community Development Association, Inc. 💙

Designed by the Tampa Bay Community Cancer Network (TBCCN), YARO empowers middle and high school students across Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Pasco Counties by exposing them to careers in health and science, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and introducing them to the impactful work at Moffitt Cancer Center.

Through meaningful engagement, hands-on learning, and mentorship, youth participants gained the tools and confidence to become health ambassadors within their communities—sharing knowledge, inspiring peers, and helping promote wellness where it matters most.

🌟 Thank you to our partners, facilitators, panel speakers, and incredible youth ambassadors for making this program such a success. Together, we’re shaping the next generation of leaders and advocates for healthier communities! 🌟
