Week 2 of Streets 2 Success focused on how our decisions shape our destinies. Through honest conversations about peer pressure, accountability, and thinking before reacting, youth explored how one choice can change the direction of their future.

Thank you to powellsfoundation for creating a space where young people can learn, reflect, and make positive choices.

Real discussions about real issues. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š

During the first Streets 2 Success session with Daniel Powell , young people were given space to have honest conversations about the choices, influences, and consequences that can shape their lives.

From understanding why young people may be drawn to gangs and the false promises that come with street life, to discussing gun violence, social media influence, respect vs. reputation, and the impact these decisions can have on victims, families, and entire communities, this conversation was about looking beyond the moment and thinking about the future.

Thatโ€™s what Streets 2 Success is about: creating a space where youth can ask questions, hear real experiences, challenge the way they think, and leave with something they can carry with them.

Because sometimes one real conversation can change the direction of a life.

Real talk. Real solutions. Real change.

Shoutout to Powells Foundation for creating opportunities for our youth to learn, reflect, and build a future worth fighting for. ๐Ÿ’š

As part of Black Tampa Historians Unlock Your Legacy experience, youth took part in a walking tour with Jamila Davis of โ€œWhat it Was Tampa Walking Tourโ€ learning how redlining and Jim Crow laws shaped where Black families could live, gather, and build community in Tampa.

Understanding the history behind our neighborhoods gives young people a deeper understanding of the systems that shaped them and the legacy they have the power to carry forward.

Know your past. Understand your community. Unlock your legacy. ๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’š

As part of Black Tampa Historians Unlock Your Legacy experience, youth watched BLINK: A Gun Violence Prevention Short Film and participated in a guided talkback with Ashley Morrow.

The conversation encouraged young people to think critically about choices, consequences, conflict, and how one decision can impact the direction of their future.

Know your past. Make positive choices. Build your community. ๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’š

We closed out the Safe Summer Series with an incredible final event filled with competition, creativity, and community. ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Six boys teams and three girls teams came out ready to compete for cash prizes, while youth and families also enjoyed Madden, cricket, arts and crafts, music, and activities for everyone. More importantly, the event gave our young people a safe, positive space to connect, compete, and have fun.

A very special shoutout to Tampa Mentality for helping bring this event to life. From bringing great ideas to the table to helping bring the community together, their creativity, leadership, and commitment to Tampaโ€™s youth played a huge role in making this possible. It is always inspiring to see young, bright minds step up, lead, and create meaningful opportunities for their community.

We also want to thank Hillsborough County, Jamal Jefferson, Tampa Police Department, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, 813STOPtheviolencetour , Riptide Girls Flag Football Club, the young ladies representing King High School, and every coach, volunteer, community partner, family member, and young person who showed up and made our final event of the summer one to remember.

The Safe Summer Series may be over, but the work continues. Stay connected, continue supporting positive opportunities for our youth, and help us keep building safer, stronger communities throughout Hillsborough County. ๐Ÿ’™
