The proposed Rays-Hines stadium and surrounding redevelopment agreement misses a golden opportunity to affirm and showcase St. Petersburg’s commitment to clean energy and climate resilience. St. Pete Sierra Club members explain exactly how to fix the deal now, before it’s voted on by Council.

Congratulations to PSTA on winning the largest grant in FL to expand their electric bus fleet to 32! PSTA now has 8 electric buses running, will soon have 12 more and with these new funds can buy yet another dozen. Clean, quiet rides will soon become more and more available throughout Pinellas. Props to CEO Brad Miller and staff Darden J. Rice, among others, for going after this $$ for cleaner air and better service. Happy to see that the work we did at Sierra Club Florida years ago to get PSTA start making the switch to electric has continued towards the goal of zero dirty diesel buses one day soon.

The federal grant will further the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority’s plan to replace all diesel buses.

The Trop failed because it was outdated before it was built. Let’s not make the same mistake twice. Let’s make sure the Rays stay in Tampa Bay in the stadium we need for the future. If the Rays are smart, and we know they are, they’ll include these improvements to the deal before it’s voted on next month:
"Fix the Deal" means:
1) Incorporate solar energy & other clean energy into the building.
2) Protect & improve Booker Creek & the natural environment.
3) Have the stadium available to use as an evacuation center/ shelter during hurricanes.
4) LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified construction. This provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, & cost-saving green buildings.

Pat Kemp is running for Congress!
I've known Pat for a long time, back to when she went to law school even as she raised two little kids. She's been an awesome Hillsborough County Commissioner the past 8 years, and now she's challenging a 1 term incumbent in a very evenly divided district, FL-15, where most voters know her name very well. Pat can win this race, and when she does, she'll fight for us in Washington like she has here in Tampa for better healthcare, our environment and good jobs. Check here to find out how you can help send Pat to Congress to work side by side with Kathy Castor.
