What began as a simple ER visit after a fall in the backyard quickly became something much more for Dexter, the young son of Karen and Micah, and their family. Thanks to a mother’s intuition and the quick action of the team at St. Joseph's Hospital-South, an unexpected abnormality was discovered, leading to a diagnosis of Chiari Malformation and a referral to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital.

Dexter required specialized neurosurgery, and his care team at St. Joseph's worked tirelessly to ensure he received the treatment he needed as quickly as possible. Throughout the process, they provided not only exceptional medical expertise, but also compassion, reassurance, and support for the entire family.

Grateful for the care their son received close to home, Karen and Micah are proud to give back so other children and families can experience the same expert, family-centered care at St. Joseph's.

For Dr. Christina Canody, pediatrics is about building relationships that last a lifetime.

Dr. Canody cares for patients from infancy to young adulthood, watching them grow and develop into who they are meant to be. By helping kids take charge of their health, she ensures they feel empowered, understood, and supported, even during difficult times. When a child says they want to see Dr. Canody because she makes them feel better, it speaks to the heart of her work.

BayCare is expanding breast cancer treatment options in West Central Florida with the introduction of robotic-assisted ni**le-sparing mastectomy, an advanced surgical procedure now available at St. Joseph's Women's Hospital. The technology was made possible in part through a $400,000 contribution from St. Joseph’s Hospitals Foundation.

On July 29, Dr. Robert Gabordi, medical director of the breast surgery program at St. Joseph’s Hospitals, performed the health system’s first robotic-assisted ni**le-sparing mastectomy. The procedure uses advanced robotic technology to remove breast tissue through a much smaller incision while preserving the ni**le and surrounding skin in carefully selected patients.
