The halls at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital were full of spooky fun and happy hearts this week! 👻🧡

Thanks to Spirit of Children, our St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital patients and their siblings got to select their Halloween costumes in a shop made especially for them. It was a spooktacular celebration filled with crafts, treats, and big smiles. Beyond the fun, Spirit of Children’s continued generosity helps our Child Life Department provide comforting, therapeutic, and educational experiences that make hospital stays a little brighter and a lot less scary for kids and their families.

For years, Emma Crisci’s family was unaware that a heart murmur could signal a life-threatening condition.

After further testing and a referral to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, Emma was diagnosed with an atrial septal defect (ASD)—two holes in her heart affecting normal blood flow. After a successful procedure, Emma returned to St. Joseph’s for regular follow-up visits. Those visits did more than monitor her heart—they inspired her to pursue a career as a diagnostic medical sonographer.

Today, Emma is a pediatric cardiac sonographer at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, carrying on the tradition of compassionate care that once helped save her life and now helping other CHD warriors.

For Dr. Grant Geissler, his commitment extends well beyond the walls of the operating room. It is about forging lifelong bonds at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital.

He recalls, “I have photos from the wedding of a patient I operated on as an infant. I became friends with that family and we made jokes about inviting me to their daughters wedding when she grows up and has a normal life. And sure enough, they did that, and I attended the wedding.”

As a BayCare Medical Group pediatric surgeon and medical director of children’s surgery at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, Dr. Geissler has developed enduring connections with families, often caring for patients from their very first day of life and celebrating their achievements years later. He considers this a true privilege, always mindful that the effects of compassionate care last far beyond a single procedure.

Physicians like Dr. Geissler leave an indelible mark on every child and family they serve, and we are deeply thankful for their dedication. 💙

Some names carry stories of love, faith, and gratitude. For Monica and Ryan Angel, naming their baby boy Joseph was a tribute to the care, compassion, and hope their family found at St. Joseph’s Hospitals.

After being told they couldn’t have biological children, the Angels’ journey took an unexpected turn when Monica became pregnant at 40. Their faith led them back to St. Joseph's, where their family had always found comfort and care. It was the same hospital that cared for their beloved daughter, Emmi Grace, during her courageous battle with brain cancer.

In gratitude for the extraordinary care they received, the Angels have continued to give back through the Foundation’s charitable events and initiatives. When their son was born healthy and strong, they knew naming him Joseph was a fitting way to honor the place that means so much to their family and community.
