As a 501(c)3 organization, we do not endorse any political party, candidate, campaign or position. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment "Rough Riders", Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation formed for the purpose of creating a perpetuating and living memorial to the unique accomplishments of President Theodore Roosevelt and the members of his famous volunteer cavalry regiment, known as the Rough Riders.

The Rough Riders played an instrumental role in the Spanish-American War when they sailed with Colonel Roosevelt from Tampa, to liberate Cuba from Spain. It is the intent of the members of the Rough Riders to keep the Rough Riders great moments in history alive. We do this by providing activities that educate people about history and keeping our Spanish-American War Monuments intact. The Tampa Bay Rough Riders also take pride in their never-ending work for local charities and children’s groups. One of the most noted Rough Rider charitable efforts would be our famous Teddy Bear Runs. The Teddy Bear was named in honor of President Roosevelt. The Rough Riders also provide time and financial assistance to many through college scholarships, academic achievement awards, home restorations, improvements in surroundings for those in our community who are physically challenged, and the restoration work on many Rough Rider related monuments including those located on Egmont Key. The Rough Riders also take part in cemetery re-dedications for fallen soldiers.

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, Rough Riders 🇺🇸

Today, as America celebrates 250 years of independence, we pause to honor the courage of those who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to establish a nation founded on liberty and opportunity.

Theodore Roosevelt reminded us:

“This country will not be a good place for any of us to live in unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in.”

That responsibility belongs to every generation.

For nearly five decades, the Rough Riders have proudly carried forward that spirit through service to our veterans, support of our neighbors, and a steadfast commitment to strengthening the Tampa Bay community. We believe patriotism is measured not only by the flags we wave, but by the lives we touch and the communities we build.

As we celebrate this historic Independence Day, may we remember that freedom is preserved by citizens who choose courage over comfort, service over self, and unity over division.

From all of us in the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, Rough Riders, we wish you and your families a safe, joyful, and memorable Fourth of July.

Strength. Honor. Service.
Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸

Today, the men and women of the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, Rough Riders pause to honor the brave souls who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend or a tradition — it is a solemn reminder that freedom has always carried a cost. We remember the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion of those who stood for something greater than themselves.

As Theodore Roosevelt and the original Rough Riders once embodied through leadership and service, may we continue to live with purpose, patriotism, and gratitude for those who never made it home.

Today, we pause in remembrance.
We stand for honor.
We carry forward their legacy.

From our Rough Riders family to all Gold Star families, veterans, active-duty military, and patriots across this great nation — we thank you, we honor you, and we will never forget!

Today, the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, Rough Riders Inc. and Springtime Tallahassee proudly participated in a Teddy Bear Run – a tradition filled with generosity, community spirit, and heartfelt smiles.

Our Rough Riders delivered Teddy Bears, beads, and plenty of joy to the incredible students and staff at the Gretchen Everhart School in Tallahassee, Florida – “Where EVERYONE is EXCEPTIONAL”

Seeing the excitement on the students’ faces and dedicated staff reminded us why this mission matters so deeply. Moments like these strengthen our commitment to serving our community with compassion and kindness.

A huge thank you to the Gretchen Everhart School for welcoming us with open arms, and to all who continue to support our efforts to make a positive impact – one smile, one bead, and one Teddy Bear at a time! ❤️ 🧸
