The Future of Hunting in Florida

Thank you so much to Mike Wessel, Travis Chapin, Pebbles Bostwick, William Helmuth, Tim Burton and Brad Lowery for coming out this weekend to get the Future of Hunting in Florida lease ready for hunting season. These individuals represent four of the organizations that will be using the property this season.
Together we mowed roads and food plots, disked and planted 14 food plots, moved 7 of the stands, mowed the entire camp area, picked up as well as removed old blinds and debris from the woods.
The property owner has done a ton of work on the roads a crossings. He put in culverts that allow us easy access to parts of the property that were previously inaccessible. He even cut roads into two additional ponds that to be honest, I never knew were there.
The disk that Rob Day repaired during the summer worked great.
The camp, stands, food plots, roads, and crossings all look great and we are ready for a great hunting season.

Florida court dismisses anti bear hunting group’s lawsuit with prejudice.

A Florida court has dismissed the lawsuit challenging the state’s first regulated black bear hunt in a decade with prejudice, meaning the case is permanently over. The court upheld the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s authority to manage wildlife and affirmed that setting hunting seasons and quotas is the agency’s constitutional responsibility. Safari Club International was the only hunting organization to formally intervene alongside the FWC in defense of the hunt.

The ruling reinforces the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation by recognizing that wildlife management decisions belong with professional wildlife agencies, not in the courtroom. It’s a major victory for hunters, conservation, and science based wildlife management.

Breaking News – Big Win for Science-Based Wildlife Management in Florida!

A Florida court dismissed a legal challenge to the state’s first black bear hunt in a decade—delivering a decisive victory for conservation and the rule of law.

SCI was the only organization to defend the hunt in court alongside the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Last year our efforts successfully defended efforts to protect the hunt. Now, the court has fully rejected legal challenges.

The court upheld every aspect of the hunt, including the science-based quota system, and confirms confirmed that managing wildlife—and hunting—is the FWC’s constitutional responsibility in Florida.

The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it is over for good.
