The lighter penguin is an elderly female whose partner died this year. The darker one is a younger male who lost his partner two years ago. Biologists have followed them as they meet every night to comfort each other. They stand for hours together watching the lights. Photographer Tobias Baumgaertner captured this image of two widowed fairy penguins looking over the Melbourne skyline. It has won an award in Oceanographic magazine’s Ocean Photography Awards 2020.

🎄WANT TO PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS AND DONATE A GIFT CARD/BASKET/RAFFLE ITEM?

THIS SATURDAY (12/9) from 10 a.m. - 12 noon is our annual WLA Free Christmas Market where the community brings all of their donations to one place. Think, "trunk-or-treat-style FREE garage sale!"

Trunk vendors arrive at 9 am, we park next to each other, and set up our donations in our own trunks (or some bring tables). It's SO much fun every year, but we have done a horrible job recruiting people to participate and work the event! So WE NEED YOUR HELP!

You are welcome to give away ANY used items you'd like to get rid of, but for Christmas, we try to focus on 1) Christmas decor, 2) Toys, and 3) Sweaters/Jackets/Blankets to help our needy families.

Kitchen, household and baby items are also very much needed!

If you'd like to participate as a "trunk vendor" OR just come volunteer to work the event, PLEASE sign up on our website below!

This year, we have Starbucks donating coffee, lots of giveaways, photo ops with Santa & Mrs. Claus, and maybe a surprise guest!!!!

LOVE this message about being BROKEN…

“I was in Dollar Tree last night and there was a lady and two kids behind me in the LONG line. One was a big kid, one was a toddler. The bigger one had a pack of glow sticks and the baby was screaming for them so the Mom opened the pack and gave him one; which stopped his tears. He walked around with it smiling, but then the bigger boy took it and the baby started screaming again.

Just as the Mom was about to fuss at the older child, he bent the glow sticks and handed it back to the baby. As we walked outside at the same time, the baby noticed that the stick was now glowing and his brother said "I had to break it so you could get the full effect from it." I almost ran because l could hear God saying to me, "I had to break you to show you why I created you. You had to go through it so you could fulfill your purpose."

That little baby was happy just swinging that "unbroken" glow stick around in the air because he didn't understand what it was created to do which was "glow". There are some people who will be content just "being" but some of us have been chosen to be "broken".

We have to get sick. We have to lose a job. We go through divorce. We have to suffer with the disease of addiction. We have to bury our spouse, parents, best friend, or our child in moments of desperation; but when the breaking is done, we will then be able to see the reason for which we were created.. so when you see us glowing just know that we have been broken but healed by Grace and Mercy!!!”
