On July 9th, 2026, the Veterans Networking Group in Tampa Bay was phenomenal as we celebrated our Veterans with a 4th of July Luncheon sponsored by Mission BBQ. They had a total of 20 Veterans in attendance to include 5 resources and 2 employers. 🫕🤩

Following guests pictured are: Mr. Michael Brown from Spectrum and Michael Augusta from Champions for Children, Chris Vincent from Excelsior University, Chris Wellington from The Vocation Depot and Targan Wehye-Jones from Military Family Services.

We would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Allison McCoy from Mission BBQ on her support to the Veteran population and providing a wonderful lunch for the Veterans that was greatly appreciated. 😊

Thank you to all of the Veterans, community partners, employers, and staff who attended and helped create such an engaging and impactful session. The conversations, networking, and support shared throughout the event truly highlighted the strength of our Veteran community.

Are you 14-21 and exploring your future? The Vocation Depot's Summer Youth Program is designed for YOU—students with IEPs, 504 Plans, or diagnosed disabilities who are ready to discover their strengths and build real job skills.

What you’ll get from our training includes:

▪️Paid work-based learning experiences such as hands-on training from our Employment Specialists to practice social skills and building relationships.

▪️Work readiness training to equip them for the workforce and focuses on employable and related skills like resume writing, mock interviews, searching, and applying for jobs.

▪️Career camp classes where all aspects of joining the workforce are explored through resume writing and interview tips.

▪️Self advocacy programs that help individuals build confidence, communicate effectively, and make informed decisions about their lives. Students and young adults learn to articulate their goals, navigate challenges, and advocate for the support they deserve.

Happy Friday!!

It’s Spring, a time for something new, including job opportunities!!

Whether it’s for adults, youth, or our honorable Veterans, we have programs that can help people with disabilities with gaining and securing employment. Our amazing Employment Specialists also assist with job applications, resume development, and interviewing skills.

We also offer:

🔹On the job training (OJT) which helps individuals with disabilities get used to the employment environment and gain valuable work experience

🔹Pre-placement training assists with writing resumes, searching for jobs and completing applications, and managing employer contacts.

🔹Supported employment, a unique employment service for people with significant disabilities who require ongoing support to succeed in competitive employment. It also includes job coaching, social integration, and maximum use of skills.

Recently, our fellow Veteran advocate and ES Chris Wellington from The Vocation Depot had the amazing opportunity and pleasure to speak with 39 staff members from the St. Vincent de Paul CARES in Tampa, FL alongside various organizations that assist with VA Homeless programs such as Supportive Services for Veteran Families [SSVF], and Rapid Housing & Stabilization Service.

These programs have been innovators in providing flexible services that aim to help Veterans and their families meet individual housing needs as well as quickly rehousing former homeless Veterans, prevent Veterans from being homeless, and increase self sufficiency. Like these organizations and programs, here at The Vocation Depot, we are also committed to making sure that our Veterans, who we are very grateful for, can receive meaningful and fulfilling employment that can help them back into civilian life.

Recently, our very own ES and Veteran Advocate Christopher Wellington and President Kevin Vincent attended Operation Stand Down Veterans Benefit Concert in Shady Hills, FL.

This event took place on April 24th from 6pm-9pm with free admission for Veterans and $10 for general admission included food trucks, raffles, silent auctions, and The Emery Brothers as the musical guest. Operation Stand Down had a huge turnout, providing plenty of contacts and supportive services for Veterans, which we couldn’t be more happier for.

We would like to thank One Community Now for presenting Operation Stand Down, including their amazing sponsors and volunteers for their services. Looking forward to next year!!
