Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty - FADP

Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty - FADP FADP is a Florida-based, state-wide organization working together to end the death penalty in Florida.

Using a coordinated, strategic, and empowerment-oriented approach, FADP works to build and mobilize public and political support for abolition. FADP’s network includes dozens of state and local groups and thousands of individual Floridians, including murder victims' family members and other survivors of violent crime, law enforcement professionals, families of the incarcerated, and death row exone

rees. Our short-term objectives include reducing death sentences, opposing executions, and changing the statewide conversation about the death penalty by highlighting the tremendous support for abolition. FADP’s current legislative focus is legislation that would exempt capital defendants from the death penalty if at the time of the crime they had a serious mental illness.

At 18 years old, Dusty Spencer served his country as a U.S. Marine, helping save lives during rescue missions in the Philippines.

At 74 years old, Dusty is scheduled to be executed. If Florida carries out his ex*****on on June 25, he will become the oldest person ever executed in the state’s modern history and the 10th veteran executed under Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Today, Dusty is elderly, seriously ill, deeply committed to his faith, and poses no threat to society. Five jurors voted for life and chose mercy more than three decades ago. Even under Florida’s current law — the lowest threshold for imposing a death sentence in the nation — Dusty would not be eligible for death based on the divided jury vote in his case.

U.S. Military veteran Dennis Sochor is scheduled to be executed in Florida on Tuesday, July 14, at 6 pm for the 1982 murder of Patricia Gifford. His death sentence was imposed after a jury recommended death by a vote of 10-2, meaning two jurors believed he should receive a life sentence instead.

Dennis has spent nearly four decades on death row. During that time, he has grown older, reflected on his actions, and lived with the consequences of his crime.

This is the second veteran in a row to receive a death warrant signed by Gov. DeSantis this year. U.S. Marine Corps veteran Dusty Spencer faces ex*****on on June 25.

Please sign this petition urging Governor DeSantis and the Florida Board of Executive Clemency to stop this ex*****on. Mercy, fairness, and respect for human dignity require us to recognize that a person is more than the worst act of their life. bit.ly/SpareDennis
