IMPORTANT PUBLIC HEALTH MESSAGE

The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County (DOH-Hillsborough) is informing residents of three confirmed human cases of locally acquired dengue.

DOH-Hillsborough and Hillsborough County Mosquito Management are coordinating surveillance and prevention efforts by conducting treatment.

DOH-Hillsborough reminds the community to avoid mosquito bites by taking basic precautions. More information is available in English, Spanish, and Creole.

The Department continues to conduct statewide surveillance for mosquito-borne illnesses, including West Nile virus infections, Eastern equine encephalitis, St. Louis encephalitis, malaria, chikungunya, and dengue.

All practitioners, health care facilities, and laboratories in Florida are required to notify the Florida Department of Health of diseases or conditions of public health significance under section 381.0031, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 64D-3, Florida Administrative Code. Dengue is reportable 24/7 by phone immediately upon suspicion.

Dengue Clinical Case Management Course provides information to enable physicians to recognize dengue cases early in the clinical course, assess patients appropriately, and provide timely treatment. This course is free, and CMEs and CEUs are available.

Protect Health Care for Our Community

For more than 30 years, the Hillsborough County Health Care Plan (HCHCP) has provided access to essential medical care for eligible uninsured, low-income Hillsborough County residents who do not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare.

By helping residents receive preventive and ongoing care, the program improves health outcomes and helps reduce avoidable emergency room visits, benefiting patients and our entire community.

Funding for the Hillsborough County Health Care Plan is at risk.

We urge you to contact the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners and ask them to preserve funding for this vital program.

A few minutes of your time can help ensure that thousands of our neighbors continue to have access to the health care they need.
