Community Health Spotlight: Millions of Floridians struggle to find affordable dental services in their communities. ACORN Clinic is changing the game in North Central Florida by offering high quality dental care to everyone who walks in their door regardless of ability to pay. Steve is a small business owner with two kids in college. In January his family plan jumped from $1000/month to $3400/month. Now insurers are proposing yet another double digit rate increase in 2027. Meanwhile, the number of hardworking Floridians going without insurance continues to skyrocket. If you’re impacted by rising healthcare costs, we want to hear your story. Together we can push for a system that everyone can access and afford. healthyfla.org/shareyourstory.

We’re STILL not okay with these healthcare prices! The spike in insurance premiums this year is pushing average, hardworking people to ration medications, skip doctor visits, or go without coverage altogether.
This is not how strong, healthy communities get built. If you’re impacted by rising healthcare costs, we want to amplify your story. Let’s until change happens: www.healthyfla.org.

It’s not complicated: Everyone benefits when we all have access to the care we need when we need it. Vanessa is living proof that access to affordable healthcare is not only a lifeline for individuals, but for whole communities. After getting care for a disease that had left her unable to work, Vanessa has recovered and now runs Bridge to Hope, a Miami-Dade nonprofit that offers fresh food, disaster relief, and community empowerment to over 8,000 neighbors per month. Some great news out of Polk County to start your week: As cost of living spikes, the county has voted to expand its Polk Healthcare Plan to offer coverage to more of its uninsured residents. This program is a lifeline for hardworking families in Polk County, and this expansion means that more Floridians will be able to access the care they need when they need it!

WUSF Public Media

The program offers healthcare coverage to uninsured residents who don't qualify for Medicaid. In July, Polk County expanded maximum income requirements from 200% to 300% of the federal poverty line.

Food or medicine? Skyrocketing medical costs are forcing more and more Floridians to make tough choices. Thank you to Hollani Davis of WPTV and our friends at Palm Beach County Medical Society for shining a light on this issue. If you struggle with medical costs, we want to hear and amplify your story: healthyfla.org/shareyourstory.

🏛️ Now that Florida’s legislative session has come to a close, I’ve been reflecting on everyone who showed up to advocate.

This year, I had the opportunity to advocate at the Florida Capitol alongside several incredible organizations that are making a difference every day.

đź’™ Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC) works to improve policies, systems, and opportunities for Floridians with developmental disabilities.

đź’™ Florida Partners in Policymaking is a leadership and advocacy program through FDDC that equips self-advocates and family members to become effective leaders in disability policy.

đź’™ CARD-USF works to provide support, training, and resources for autistic individuals and their families.

đź’™ Florida Voices for Health brings together advocates from across the state to improve access to affordable, quality health care and helps everyday Floridians share their stories with lawmakers.

Each organization taught me something different, but they all reinforced the same message: your voice matters.

Advocacy doesn't always mean speaking in front of hundreds of people. Sometimes it's sending an email, sharing your story, attending a meeting, or simply helping others understand why an issue matters.

❓What is one issue you advocated for this legislative session?

❓What do you hope gets more attention next year?
Thank you to everyone who continues to use their voice to help make life better for others. đź’™
