While a recent cytomegalovirus (CMV) vaccine trial from Moderna was discontinued after showing limited effectiveness, research to prevent and treat infections like CMV, polyomavirus (BK), and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) continues.

Professor Matthew Reeves, Ph.D. from University College London is developing a new approach to CMV vaccination for kidney transplant recipients.

Memo Therapeutics is advancing an antibody treatment for BK. Their drug, potravitug, demonstrated a significant antiviral response in a Phase 2 clinical trial. A global Phase 2 clinical research study for adults with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is currently enrolling participants.

The ANCHOR ADPKD study, sponsored by Calico Life Sciences, is evaluating an investigational treatment to determine its effects on ADPKD disease progression.

Participation includes study-related care at no cost and may include travel reimbursement.

This investigational treatment has not been approved by the FDA or any other regulatory authority and its safety and efficacy have not been established.

Today is a landmark moment for the PKD community: for the first time ever, Congress has introduced PKD-specific legislation.

The PKD Cures Act, a bipartisan bill led by Representatives Debbie Wasserman Schultz, along with her colleagues Carol Miller, Emanuel Cleaver, and Don Bacon – all longtime supporters of the PKD community – directs the NIH to expand and intensify PKD research across basic, translational, and clinical science, and establishes a working group to develop a comprehensive roadmap for the future of PKD research and innovation.
