Today, the IHIA kicked off the Child and Infant Death Investigations Course in Tulsa, OK with attendees from 15 states, Canada, and Santiago, Chile.
The week started by examining how people perceive, process, and recall traumatic events, including what 911 call research can teach investigators about attention, behavior, and memory. Attendees also explored Proximity-Based Evidence Disclosure (PED) and how strategic evidence disclosure can improve interviews and strengthen investigations.
Over the next several days, attendees will explore child death scene investigations, forensic pathology, injury interpretation, medical findings, investigative decision-making, multidisciplinary collaboration, and case studies drawn from real-world investigations.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this course is bringing together professionals from different disciplines and jurisdictions to learn from one another while strengthening the collective ability to investigate some of the most challenging cases in the field.
The Tulsa Police Department and Tulsa Tech are exceptional hosts.
