On June 10, the Global Virus Network (GVN) will host a media briefing for journalists featuring leading experts from the DRC, World Health Organization (WHO), Africa CDC, and GVN Centers of Excellence to discuss the evolving Ebola outbreak, challenges related to and containment, risks of regional spread, healthcare worker protection, and lessons for future epidemic preparedness.
Speakers include Prof. Jean-Jacques Muyembe Tamfum (L’Institut National de Recherche Biomédical - INRB Kinshasa), Prof. Maria Van Kerkhove (World Health Organization (WHO)), Prof. Yap Boum II (Africa CDC), Prof. Salim S. Abdool Karim (GVN Center of Excellence Director of CAPRISA), Prof. Robert F. Garry Jr. (GVN Center of Excellence Director of Tulane University), Prof. Sten H. Vermund (Chief Medical Officer, GVN; USF College of Public Health), and moderator Prof. Christian Bréchot (Vice Chair, GVN Board of Directors; USF Health-University of South Florida).
Several participants are currently supporting response efforts in the DRC and will provide firsthand perspectives from the field.
