To all of the Sylvia Riveras of Today-
There are still Sylvia Riveras among us — leaders, advocates, organizers, and everyday community members who fight fiercely for the collective LGBTQ+ community, even when that fight is met with resistance from within. They push forward anyway. They show up anyway. They protect our most vulnerable anyway.
Just like Sylvia, today’s fighters are often the ones calling out injustice, demanding unity, and doing the work others shy away from. And too often, they face criticism, indifference, or dismissal from the very community they are trying to strengthen.
Yet they continue — because they know what Sylvia knew:
Collective unity is power. Division is the enemy. Liberation is a shared responsibility.
To the modern-day Sylvia Riveras:
We see you. We honor you. We stand with you.
Your courage keeps our movement alive, and your persistence reminds us that progress is never comfortable — but always necessary.
May our community learn to uplift its fighters instead of resisting them.
May we choose solidarity over ego, collaboration over conflict, and action over apathy.
Because when we stand together, every one of us becomes stronger.
La lucha sigue — and unity is how we win.
