Dr. Thomas Bernasek dedicated his career to caring for patients, advancing research and training the next generation of physicians at Tampa General.

To honor his extraordinary legacy as an orthopaedic surgeon, physician leader and educator, we invite our community to make a gift in his memory to support the Taneja Surgical, Neuroscience & Transplant Tower and the future of surgical care at TGH. At the TGH Foundation board of trustees meeting this morning, our Child Life Coordinator Paige and Millie Valor shared the impact of the facility dog program at Muma Children’s Hospital at TGH. The program is fully funded by philanthropy. We also thanked Dr. Patricia Emmanuel for her many years of service on our board.

Last week, we celebrated Elevating Excellence Week, bringing together team members, physicians and leaders across the system to share in the impact of the comprehensive Elevating Excellence: Innovating Tomorrow’s TGH campaign. From the "Philanthropy Funded That" Scavenger Hunt and coffee truck visits to meaningful conversations at Schwartz Rounds and inspiration from the WaveMaker panel, the week highlighted the generosity, collaboration and innovation driving the future of healthcare at Tampa General.

Following the passing of beloved TGH Aeromed Flight Nurse Laurie "Life Saver Laurie" Duppenthaler, we are honored to celebrate her extraordinary legacy through the Laurie Duppenthaler Legacy of Compassion Scholarship. Known for her unwavering compassion, selflessness and ability to bring comfort during life's most difficult moments, Laurie touched countless patients, families and team members throughout her career.

With the support of Michele Moran, TGH Vice President, Emergency & Trauma Services, Laurie's family, the TGH Aeromed team and the Tampa General Hospital Foundation established this scholarship to support TGH team members pursuing nursing education and registered nurses advancing their careers, ensuring her legacy of kindness continues for generations to come.
